i have the stock exhaust and i would like it to be louder. any recommendations on how to do this without spending 4-10k on a new exhaust? i saw some videos with a straight pipe but im not sure thats the direction i want to go
The stock exhaust is great the way it is. Removing the secondary resonators wouldn’t be “hacking”. You get the exact sound an octave lower and about another 7-10 dB. And this simple mod is reversible.

Hi Everyone, my name is Mike and I am from the UK and got my first Mercedes which is an AMG GT-S woooowwwwwwww loving it. I tooo was thinking of an exhaust upgrade. Please can you help me out, what is the "secondary resonator and where do I find it?
Thanks and looking forward to learning, sharing and chatting
No drone on the GT/GTS car, not sure about the GT-R.
Mike: congrats on the GTS. If you just look under the car, you will see the two resonators right after the pipes bend from the engine to follow the transmission in the front. Any exhaust shop can do this for a few hundred quids and it's an easy reversal.
Thank you, I found them I feel a bit daft for asking now.......for my next daft question, will the noise increase be on start up and in general or do you have to be at fast speeds?

Have a great day everyone
i believe the resonators are there for cold startup exhaust gas and maybe sound, but if Car is cold it sounds exactly the same IMO. The real sound increase occurs under load and on downshift. A lot more cracks and more of the same tone except louder by 5-7 decibels. With E valves closed, it’s very similar.
Try it and if you don’t like you can put back. But my car sounds exactly the way I want and as Emeric stated no drone whatsoever.
would be interested to know how it sounds now? I went to a local tuner and he mentioned the sound is louder but on the high pitch side, for those who prefer that, I prefer more growly (deeper) sound that comes from my Z06 engine.

That is not a resonator, its another catalytic converter downstream from the primary ones that are integrated into the down tubes. There have been other threads on this too I believe.

Correct, that is a secondary cat. I don’t think it should be a problem since the O2 sensors are located on the first set.
People call them secondary "resonators" because it's illegal to remove any catalytic converters on a vehicle in the US. With that being said, I've never heard of anyone actually caught or fined for it, but most shops won't remove secondary cats if you call them secondary cats.
