So last night I shined a light through the driver’s side vent on my GT R. I can see light within the left front fender when shining he torch thru’ the upper portion on the vent, but not the lower. So yes; there is a communication between the upper part of the vent into the fender close to the dry sump oil holding tank.
I could never see see any light spill on the passenger’s side, BUT there isn’t a decent opening looking down on the top of the fender on that side, so it’s hard to tell if there is a communication on the passenger’s side.

Not sure why there's so much speculation, and incorrect/mis-information as noted above (but kudos to Bishman for trying to shine a Light):
Fender Vents on GT R are open along the entire height of the vent as pictured below, and are functional - heat is felt dissipating from vent after sustained driving at high loads.
Now, my question to anyone familiar with the Rear Bumper "Vents" on either side:
Are these functional? There appears to be a height-wise opening of approx 1cm wide in the black plastic backing that lies behind the mesh. . .
But where is the ingress opening in the rear wheel arches?
Do these 2 openings pictured below in each of the rear wheel arches of a GT R communicate with the Rear Bumper "Vents"?

Yes. On the GTR (GTC?) version, the rear openings are also functional / open. The grid is held by a "cap" which is about 50% open.
I used this cap as a holder for 2 red LED lights (connected to the license plate light) and slightly enlarged the opening.
Best regards
Stenzel

Where is the air ingress for the Rear Bumper Openings? Is it in the Rear Wheel Arch as pictured above?
Or is the air flow coming in from some place else?

Haven't seen any other opening.Wanted to enlarge it first.
Then I noticed that my wind tunnel is defective.
Joke, I thought, AMG will know what they're doing.
Aerodynamics isn't exactly my area of expertise.:-) :-)

Looking at the design of the vents I wonder if they don't serve as additional heat dissipation for the Getrag DCT (in addition to the rear vents). Can't see any airflow from the wheel housing . The AMG GTC/GTR have actual vents while other AMG's have the same exterior vent design but those are actual dummy vents (see the black C63s bumper).
