Wheel size and ride quality

OEM sizes are 19/20 but most aftermarket dealers recommend bigger wheels.

They reommend 20/21 wheels. Actual sizes are 20x10j and 21x12j.

will these wheels be too big for the GTS. Will they stick out of the fenders?

do bigger wheels change the toe, alignment and caber?

Is the ride quality affected?

Ohhh. Cutter you answered your question by what you posted as to wheel size..... your not likely to buy a new wheel in same size as stock

You also know answer to second question

To maintain the same rolling radius on the larger aftermarket wheels, the tyres will have a narrower sidewall, hence more than likely the compliance will be reduced versus stock size wheels.

A high quality manufacturer of aftermarket wheels should not sell you wheels that won’t actually fit, meaning you have rubbing issues with the tyres, etc.

Alignment settings should not be altered, again with high quality slightly larger wheels.

when it comes to cardiac reconstruction , I have no questions or doubts. Swapping out wheels is a little different .

I can get custom wheels in any diameter and width. If getting OEM sizes , the offsets can be different. Changing diameters and widths at the same time has me scratching my head.

The OEM wheels were designed for the car. Aftermarket were not. Just don’t know if the bigger wheels change much more than looks

Stock AMG wheels are still a bit conservative and quality wheel manufacturers will change the offset to get the wheel to be somewhat flush with the body.

The wheels are almost always wider than stock and the car typically needs a drop as well to balance the wider stance with the height of the car.

I have a 2016 GTS with the original rims. The car has 265/35 19 inch wheels in the front. The rear has 295/35. Could I put 275/35 on the front and 305 or 315/30 on the rear? I currently have Pilot Super Sport tires on my car and would replace the tires with the same brand. Would this alter the ride of the car?

I had 20/21s with Pirellis and was not a fan.

I switched to 20/20 with Michelins PS4s and it rides better.

At the time, Michelin didn't make the PS4 in my 21" size. They do now.

So yeah this post isn't helpful at all.

You’ve been on the wheel question search since at least January, time to just do it!

I don’t like the 10” width on the front (for GT, GTS) prefer 9.5” with for the 265 tire, in either 19 or 20 inch.

Again I’m sure we went over this before, but you need the offsets to be correct, that is MOST important once you select your 19/20 or 20/21 size set up.

I have bad roads all around me, and don’t mind the 20/21 set up at all. I have 2 sets of aftermarket wheels that are 20x9.5 front and 21x12 rear, 1 set is 1pc monoblock the other 3pc floating spoke design, both with proper offsets I worked with companies on, not just “here’s the offset we offer”, I got it pretty dialed in offset wise for these cars. Also, have my stock 19/20” set up that is on occasionally.

I have been looking at wheel designs for a while, but it’s been winter and the car was on blocks, covered and hooked up to a battery tender. Wheels weren’t a priority .

I just took her out last week for the first time. Today was my first long ride.

I happen to like my OEM wheels but I started a wheel quest when I wanted a set of winter wheels. First I was going to get a set of cheap wheels for winter and then decided to get after market wheels and relegate the OEMs to winter duty.

Clearly since it’s spring now, I’m in no rush to make a decision. I’ve picked the style . Now I need to decide on size. Then I’ll order my wheels. By the time I get them , I’ll put Sootozeros on the OEM wheels. I’ll just wear out these tires on my current OEMs

The car will look fantastic with 20/21 and I think they should have come with the car. Pay the extra money and buy from a reputable custom shop that will guarantee proper fitment. There will be some ride quality difference but not much in my opinion. Get an alignment after your new set is installed.

If you are doing it for looks that's fine, but if you want better handling going to bigger heavier wheels will almost always have the opposite effect.

Slightly larger in the rear with a 305 tire.
