2016 GTS on Bring A Trailer

You mean as a purchase by a secondary owner? There are 40 CPO GTs on the mbusa website, so they do sell these as CPOs. But yes, I was surprised that a commenter on that thread said he bought a warranty.
Actually, as I have been researching this car, I wonder now how valuable the CPO warranty is on a car like this. You get a 4/50K factory warranty, and most of these cars are not daily drivers and hence at 3 years old - are way below the mileage limits. So the unlimited mileage part of the CPO is really not worth much on a car like this. You really are only getting just an extra years warranty on this car when buying it as a CPO. What am I missing?

I was quoted by my dealer the pricing for the warranty extension which is equivalent to CPO. I had procured my vehicle from a BMW dealer.
I'm still waffling on the cost benefit.
You do have to execute the extension prior to expiration of original warranty.

"After giving up on a GT3 touring order slot in any reasonable time frame, I bought a 2016 Certified GTS with 12k miles. Blue on tan with $155k MSRP. Added MB Extended warranty through June 2013 and the AMG wheel/tire for an out the door for a little over 63% of original MSRP.
I love it. Its simple and powerful. Handles well. Great exhaust. Great interior and solid build design. Great for date night or a weekend trip. It’s kind of an updated 928. Surprised I don’t see more running around."
That was me. And I bought a certified car at my local dealer and extended the certified warranty through MB for an additional 2 years. Its the third AMG I've done this with. An E55, my wife's current E63S and our new (to us at least) GTS.

I think about the extension as a warranty put option. If I trade/sell the car before the extension period then I can redeem the unused extension for even money. But perhaps if I sell the car in the aftermarket (and lets say the car is nearly 5 years old at that point) I'm going to do much better (pricewise) vs every other retail 5 year old GTS in the market. The value degradation on 5 year old $155k performance cars is impressive.
I sold my 6.5 year old E55 with a half year of CPO warranty left for $4,500 above the closest car in the market and $7,500 above dealer trade-in. I'll do the same with our 2014 E63S which runs out of CPO in 12/2020. I'll sell summer 2020 and get top dollar vs every other retail E63S in the market.
But if I keep it and still daily drive, then I sleep tight not worrying at all. The cars are well-built and designed but a 6 year old $155k gas still has parts and labor like a $155k new car. It's part of the reason that 348's and 355's aren't expensive to buy, Its the maintenance/repair cost of a much more expensive car.

I didn't know you could add years to the CPO warranty from Mercedes, they don't mention that on their website, they just talk about adding 1 year past the factory warranty plus the unlimited mileage. Yes, on a car like this, adding years is worth it. Is it a fixed fee from MBUSA, or do dealers negotiate on the extension cost?

Just as an FYI, I was the high bidder on that GT-S at about $78K, or ~$82K with buyers premium... To me seems not far off the mark.
Seller's reserve was evidently $85K, with premium ~$89K, which seems wildly optimistic right now.
Still looking, if anyone has any leads on a nice GT-S, let me know.
(ps, would be first AMG, coming from a string of Porsches, currently a 911 Turbo)

there are plenty of used Gt/ GTS on autotrader for low prices. You have to decide how much to spend and what features you need or want .
Much cheaper than new . Caveat emptor.

Seeing it in person might change your mind. I wasn't a fan, until I saw one locally, and now it's my favorite stock color for the GT.

This opal red GTS is now on eBay with a pretty good price as long as the car is straight.

Any general thoughts on PPIs for these cars? I know in the Porsche world, there are tons of independent shops that really know what they are doing. Is it pretty much dealer-only for the AMG GT with perhaps an occasional indy that knows enough about these cars to PPI them?

YMMV
