GT R Cargo Privacy Shade Question

In looking through GT R listings and videos I've noticed that there are rare instances where a car has the cargo privacy shade (i.e. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ngId=520106242). My understanding is that the shade gets removed from the GT R as standard. Have these particular cars just been retrofitted with it, or is it a dealer option?

What difference does it make? It’s a used car configured as was wanted by the original buyer.

Will you walk away based on the presence or abscence of a privacy screen? If that’s the deal breaker for you , move on and get another car. The AMG GTR is not for you.

Its about performance not cargo hiding.

In that case, the stereo is standard Burmiester. Pass!

Not only do I have a privacy screen , I also have a separating cargo net which I never installed and is sitting in my garage

I don't necessarily care either way. I'm asking out of curiosity since the vast majority of cars I've come across don't have it and I don't see the shade as an option in the online configurator. Is it in fact an option at spec time? Or are they being added aftermarket?

When I was configuring my GT R, which I played around with multiple times, not once did I see a ‘Privacy screen’ for the hatch area as an option. So I don’t think it was ever offered, although perhaps someone did figure out how to make one work.

Personally I have the rear area windows covered in 15% tint, so it’s pretty damn hard to see inside.

Look who is talking

I remember you discussing and pondering every detail to no end until you finally got with your car. Couple hundred posts? Stopped counting

This seems like a legitimate question...

Ok, I won’t be a ***** with this response. As per the MBUSA website, it is part of the standard equipment .

Seek and ye shall find.

It may well state on the website that it’s part of the Standard equipment, but I believe that no GT Rs have been thusly equipped upon delivery

Here are the things my GTR came with:

1. The car its self
2. Floor mats
3. Trickle charger
4. Custom AMG car cover in black AMG duffle bag cover
5. Rear shade screen
6. Emergency bag full of crappy bandaids and gauze in case you crash during a track session
7. 2 AMG Affalterbach key covers
8. Manuals in black binder
9. 2 keys
10. 2 Yellow vests to wear if in accident
11. Ash tray cup for when I smoke while driving and tracking

When I was signing the papers and counting over the stacks of cash from my suitcase, an older gentleman who also has the car congratulated me and bought himself and me matching white AMG hats from the parts store. Nice gesture!

Yeah, not sure why he feels the need to discredit the question this much. Obviously the vast majority of GT Rs do not have the cargo shade, and surely that's not because nearly every customer explicitly spec'd it to NOT be installed.

Interesting. Are you the original owner?

Fwiw I really wanted that and it didn’t come nor it was an option. I wanted it to keep content from flying around rather than privacy.

Dealer told me the privacy shade isn’t available for the GTR. I’m trying to drive/use the car as much as possible during summer time as it goes to the storage in winter; without the shade, I’m often worried about break ins which does happen often enough. I carry a dark color towel now in case I need to cover my stuff.

Interesting. Isn't available or doesn't even apply or work? I haven't used it yet...I'll check it out today. You would think the GT is pretty standard inside across the board....

I'm starting to wonder if GT Rs that do have the shade were simply mistakes by the factory. Maybe the line worker that installs them thought they were building a GT C Or the factory takes pre-assemblies that already had the shade and used them to build a GT R.

Brand new GTR 2019 version. Came with the sun shade, it wasn’t an option on the car. Its not something to fight over and wouldn’t help you with the negotiation.

I dont use it. Rear window is tinted 20% and you can’t see anything in the trunk.

Mine’s 2019 and it doesn’t have the shade. I asked my dealer at delivery and they said it’s not for GT R. Instead of the shade, there’s a piece of aluminum look plastic AMG plate in that place.

Exactly what my GTC coupe came with. Yellow vests are required in Europe so I guess they just put them in all cars now.

The GTC has the partition screen standard.

Mine is a 19 and it was a cost option I believe $115.00 option. I have never used it as I have dark tint. Could also promote rattles.

You sure it's the privacy shade? That's what I thought was in the bag until I opened it, and it was the cargo net instead.

This is a space divider that goes between the cabin and trunk. MB says it’s to be used when carrying moving items in the trunk so when you accelerate or stop, they don’t shift into the cabin and cause safety concerns. Maybe I should install this piece asap.

I doubt the design is anything rattle-free, it’s fairly easy and quick install, there are basically 4 hooks that holds the net together only.

So @ZephyrAMG looks like your car doesn't actually have the privacy shade (or "luggage cover" as MB refers to it). So weird. This is the shade in the car from my original post, whereas most GTRs have the metal (plastic?) piece with the embossed AMG logo in its place:
