DashCam install

With all the junk Mercedes put next to the rear view mirror (lane tracking etc), I am not sure where to mount a dash cam.

Anyone got some pictures of installs you have?

Also, to note, I can't see it at all from the drivers seat, as since I mounted my radar detector from the passenger visor, it doesn't interfere with that either.

Looks similar to ours. The rear setup for the roadster is a bit more annoying but by placing it on the wind screen it records top and down.

Btw, you can easily hide the cable by the center console; the side leather trim can be just pulled and is only held by a clip. Simply pull horizontally away from the center console right where is the cable is...

Nice, I'll do that tomorrow so that it's completely hidden.

Can you please help me? I just got my GTs a few days ago and was trying to hardwire the radar into the passenger side footwell fusebox however the A-Pillar runs the entire side so there’s no way to go across. How did you connect your radar/dash-cam to the passenger visor?

I'm not sure what you mean by "the A-Pillar runs the entire side". I popped all of the interior panels off, the the A-Pillar was a bit of a pain, and ran the wire down it, down the side of the glove compartment area.

I mounted my dashcam to the windshield, and my radar detector to the sun visor via a clip mount.

Looking for some more suggestions on dashcam wiring getting across the a pillar where it meets the dash on the interior passenger side. See pics below, used a white iPhone cable for illustrative purposes because it stands out against the interior.

Coming down a pillar, cable would be tucked to this point.

How is everyone coming across here as it’s way to tight to tuck a cable?

And once down the side how best to go either behind carpet or back up next to underside of glovebox and down to fuse panel?

Just take all of that trim out, and there's plenty of room for the cable.

sounds like you’ve taken all this trim out before - any gotchas or clips or screws or plastic tabs I should watch out for or be careful with? Or does it all just pop and pull off with some plastic trim tools?

have done this before on my Yukon and other cars I had, just a bit hesitant as a busted trim piece for a merc is probably infinitely more expensive than for my Yukon to replace if busted 🤣

It's been awhile since I've done it, for my own dashcam install, but the plastic kickplate/door sill just pops straight up, then you peel back the rubber seal that runs around the entirety of the door frame. After that you should see any screws needed for the trim near the glove box and carpet, if there are any. Almost all of the trim just pops straight up and out, other than the A pillar trim, and maybe one or two pieces near the glove box. You basically start with the plastic kick plate, then work your way up from there.

Give me a few hours and I'll pull it out, pop some of the trim, and snap a couple of pics.

These are the only pics I have on me atm from wiring in my front and rear dashcams.

Is that a DR900X or DR900S? Have you had any overheating issues? Have you had any "dashcam interferes with the car electronics" issues.

I will soon be installing a DR900X with Cellink NEO in my GTR, so this stuff is of great interest.

I'd also be interested in hearing about how/where you got the power from ... and pictures, for the bonus points.

Well, thought I had uploaded the pics, but mobile is funky, so it seems they never went through.

Thank you! I figured you maybe hadn't had time to upload so I went ahead with the install this past weekend. Took me a good 6hrs to wire front and back cams and re-assemble the interior trim pieces. Actually was not that difficult EXCEPT for the A-Pillar trim that runs front to back. Simple to get out, a bit of a pain to line up and fit back in with the side roof panel that it snaps into.

Otherwise everything is back to looking perfect and the install came out great!

Glad you were able to figure it out. It's kind of cool how easily it all disassembles, once you know where to start. Was even easier to take apart and put back together than the trim in my SUV.
