The obvious is true with the use of vents and splitters and plastic as car manufactures direct better air flow to cool components at the same time as providing unique shapes and modern designs.
It’s a wonderful antithesis to the jagged and over styled designs of many modern cars, such as the C8 Corvette and Ferrari SF90 (that rear end

When Mercedes Benz gave AMG more freedom in designing their top tier sportscars, the cars have been timeless. The SLS still looks amazing after almost 10 years.
Hoping the GT is the same after a decade and beyond.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

Personally, I believe the 2008-2015 designs are still timeless. Once Benz AMG started getting too jellybean with the front headlights and rounded rear quarter panels and rear bumpers they lost me to some degree.... The C class after 2014 is hideous in my opinion. The E on the other hand looks phenomenal. Even though they share similarities, maybe it's in the way the car is stretched or front and rear thickness of the car. Sometimes when you add a lip tor a diffuser to a car is really makes it look good by "thickening" it up...
I gotta agree with @ZephyrAMG - timeless still needs an identity. Lately all the most recent facelift designs are showing way too many rounded, generic elements. For example, new GLS looks like any random SUV. No longer has the aggressive look that the previous generations of the GLS had. Its completely "rounded" and soulless.
Every time I look at our 2013 CLS550, it still looks as gorgeous as it did back on delivery day - 7 years ago. It has a timeless design, but a unique identity that makes it unmistakable. The GT most definitely has both characteristics.

The rounded front bumper and headlight design of the new GLS in many ways takes cues from the AMG GT, but the design doesn’t fit the character of the car at all. Sharper, boxier shapes better suit the character of the GLS.
The new A Class sedan is particularly generic looking. While the interior is mostly nice, and the transmission is nice, the exterior shape of the sedan is very generic econocar. The exterior design and proportions of the A class sedan would look right at home being branded as a Hyundai Accent sedan.
