2016 GTs software update fail
Anyone else have a recall for a software update and have issues? My car went in to get a software update and the computer crashed. They said it was a server problem in Germany. Anyone else hear anything about this?

My car has been at the dealership broken for three weeks now. They are still saying they have Germany trying to troubleshoot the problem. But it is still broken. This is getting ridiculous. If this would have happened in the summer I would be loosing my mind by now.

I've had it happen to me a few times. Seems like it's a pretty common thing with their update servers. Mine only took a few days for it to come back online. Most likely they are being truthful. They have no reason to lie and jerk you around. Nothing for them to gain by doing so. Hopefully it gets resolved sooner than later.

Never had a software update since I’m tuned. Anything cool I’m missing out on?

Yea, I'm getting a new tune next month. So I won't mind my current tune being erased. That's why I was wondering if anything significant has been updated in the last four years.

Mine just got done with no issues but it has happened to a friend, 3 days for a fix. You should ask for an AMG Gt or greater loaner.

Finally got my car back. It took Germany techs way to long to figure out what happened....but it's fixed and I have her back. What a beast! Love this car. Oh and if you live near Salem Oregon you should use salem mercedes. They were very nice in dealing with this and I am very happy with them.

Manual map update
I’m trying to manually update my maps on 2020 GLE450. I have fup2 update. I downloaded all the map updates on a thumb drive (18gb) and inserted in the car and then tried to update via the systems menu. It says it’s updAting but the status counter stays at 0%. I’ve let it run for over an hour and it stayed at 0%. I thought maybe doing all the map updates at once was causing it to choke so tried a single map update (1gb) but it did the same thing.
anyone else have trouble updating the maps? Not really sure if it’s updating in the background but just not counting down but I figured an hour should be enough time for the update to complete. AppreciTr any input.

I'm supposed to go in and get mine done as its picky about the oil level and the electronic differential occasionally becomes unavailable. I have the tune from Eurocharged and the backup of the factory file.

There appear to be a few ECU reflash updates from MB, some for the electronic differential errors, some for the overly sensitive oil sensor level (when you get a warning), there were some updates for command as there we glitch. If you don't have any issues it may not be necessary and as you probably already know you can re-flash your tune after.

I'd like more info on this as well. I've owned mine only a few months and am considering a Eurocharged tune and exhaust. (I love everything about this car except its too quiet.)

When MB updates software, more often than not the update over writes all parameters.
When any tuner performs a tune, they are only modifying specific items (timing, boost, throttle opening, octane specific, top speed limiter removals, etc, etc.)

Interesting, and thanks for the clarification. In my mind I was envisioning the tune as something similar to a snapshot backup of your PC, that you restore after a dealer update, instead of just specific documents that are backed up.

what dlefty;8029802 is correct, the tune only changes some parameters. Also if you use someone like eurocharged or one of the other vendors that use the mygenuis programmer, you can download you current ECU file, send it to your tuner and they'll modify that specific file, I don't think that's necessary after your first tune, but its something you can do if you're worried.
