Fairly certain those numbers reflect the addition of the sedan....pretty sure they lump them under the GT category.

Ah, that would make much more sense. I've seen these numbers before this post, and was perplexed why sales shot up in 2019 before the facelift model came out, and why sales shot up so drastically and suddenly, given that nothing else suggests the car suddenly became more popular or famous.

100% correct, sedans are being counted in GT family sales.

Looking at last year's and current inventory at dealers here in Canada - the conclusion can be drawn that sales are not going well for the GT coup/roadster family. Lots of leftover 2019's which were heavily discounted and still some available now at dealers $50k+ off list for 2019's. The 2020's won't fair much better with the COVID economic hit. High end sports car sales are way down and in some cases imploding, as with the whole luxury category. Lots of other examples of this, rolex resale prices, designer clothing, etc...

I don't know where you are seeing pre-owned Rolex watches getting hit hard. They are still trading well above retail.

Choice models above retail yes, but much lower from their highs. A view of the various recent rolex watch channels on youtube and others will confirm. Lots of coverage on the topic.

Don’t believe everything you see on YouTube. Rolex market is fine for all desirable models. They took a small hit but overall they aren’t far behind what they were pre Covid here in Toronto. That said, I wouldn’t want to be selling one now lol. As for GT’s, the market for them has always been sluggish here. Corporate has never marketed them for some strange reason and they always go on big sale at the end of the model year. The 20’s are already marked down substantially as there a rent many remaining new 19’s left and ‘21 model year should be launching in a few months with models hitting the floor late fall unless everything changes...

I agree with you. I keep a close eye on the watch market and I have seen very little movement in the resale market. And, while I wouldn't want to be trading one in or on the sellers side of this, pricing hasn't translated into any sizable difference - more like pre-owned has moved from super ridiculous to pretty ridiculous.

The last six digits of the VIN appear to be sequential, and I see a near continuous spread on VINWiki ranging from around 0 for the earliest MY2016 cars, to 29xxx for the newest 2020 builds. Based on that, it looks like around 30k C190 AMG GT have been built to date worldwide - this is a mix of base, S, C, R, and R Pro, coupe and roadster.

I did spot one oddball VIN though: a 2020 GT R Roadster with a VIN ending in 040038. I wonder if they skipped all the 03xxxx VINs, and jumped straight to 040000.

I’ve seen similar jumps in other models. For example, C216 chassis CL class VINs range continuously from around 0 in 2007 to around 032000 in 2014, but then a few 2014 cars had VINs 046xxx, skipping a bunch.

Doing some more analysis of VINWiki VIN numbers, I've estimated worldwide production numbers of C190 coupe/roadster per North American model year. Note that North American model years don't necessarily correspond to model years in other countries/continents, but the VIN sequence is global.

North American Model Year 2016
Production calendar years 2014-2016
Lowest VIN seen: 000195
Highest VIN seen: 009418
Approximate count: 9500

North American Model Year 2017
Production calendar years 2016-2017
Lowest VIN seen: 09909
Highest VIN seen: 012946
Approximate count: 3500

North American Model Year 2018
Production calendar years 2017-2018
Lowest VIN seen: 013204
Highest VIN seen: 021648
Approximate count: 8500

North American Model Year 2019
Production calendar years 2018-2019
Lowest VIN seen: 022738
Highest VIN seen: 024927
Approximate count: 2500

North American Model Year 2020
Production calendar years 2019-2020
Lowest VIN seen: 025108
Highest VIN seen: 029588
Approximate count: 5000

Late Production 2020 AMG GT R Roadsters
Production calendar year 2020
Lowest VIN seen: 040038
Highest VIN seen: 040472
Approximate count: ???

I'm not sure what's with the 040xxx VIN numbers for late production 2020 AMG GT R Roadsters. Did they skip all 03xxxx VINs? Why?

These two posts seem very contradictory. That is a significant difference in numbers. Are you assuming that there is one car for every VIN digit? Is there any proof of that?

US sales vs global production. Global sales are typically 3-4x US sales. Also production is not sales, so cars made in one year may be sold in another year. Furthermore, North American model years don’t match calendar years.

The VINs have been sequential for other Mercedes-Benz models I’ve looked at and have matched global published production numbers.
