Great looking car, but it was clear that it had been "rode hard and put away wet," so I walked.
I wish there was a mileage limit for cars to be listed as "new". I was looking at a "new" 2019 Nissan GT-R Track Edition. That MSRP'd for approximately $140K but the dealer in Washington state was selling for $99K. There were almost 7,000 miles on it. The salesperson told me the previous owner of the dealership used it for "two month" as a demo car and, "took great care of it". Yet almost 7,000 were put on it. Plus in digging around the GT-R community, the previous owner had tracked the car, and you have that, plus you have to assume it was launched many times. Not only do you have the possible service/mechanical issues to address (including already half the tire tread life gone, did they already do the 6,000 mile service, etc.), but I don't care, if you've put several thousand miles on a car, no matter how much you babied it, you're going to have rock chips. So are you getting a car that upon further inspection, there are a few Dr. Chip repairs.

If you want “new” buy a NEW car off the dealer. Then you can ride it as hard as you want or baby it.

The previous owners bought the cars and ate the depreciation. They are certainly entitled to ride, track or launch the car as much as they care. If they get some chips or wear the tires, that is hardly a concern. If you then buy that car at a significant discount, you can replace the tires, get paint correction , get it detailed and have it wrapped In ppf. Then you can put in the garage and dust it off once a week.

it’s a car and meant to be driven . It’s a machine. Weekend tracking by an amateur driver should not destroy the car after several thousand miles.

Thanks for the lecture about car ownership. You missed my point and that was a dealership listing a car as new, even though it had almost 7,000 miles on it, and yes, tracking and launching it. I think if most people buy new, they have the expectation that the vehicle will be in pristine condition. Otherwise, buy used and adjust expectations. You went off on another tangent about previous owners doing whatever to a car, and the residual wear and tear. Not what I meant. Also, I don't buy a car to stare at it in a garage, I buy it to drive everyday. Perhaps you have the financial means to afford a weekend/track toy but I don't.

I agree; its deceptive. They should have at least called it a demo vehicle or dealer inventory. New ultimately falls on whether the car as an activated warranty and reg in place - at least they acknowledge the hit with a 45K discount - $7.50/mile seems like a good deal with full warranty intact (Id be surprised if they didnt change the tires - 6K of hard miles and they would all but be ready for recycling).

Thanks for the insights. I suppose one could ask the dealership if they'd swap out the tires and show what maintenance/service was documented. At the same time, even with the $30K ($130,755 MSRP) reduction in price from an as new MSRP, I'd be looking at what the 2020 Track Edition offered vs. the '19. At the same time, a new '20 Track Edition would be $147K MSRP. That's way out of my price range!

I tend to agree. You really need to be careful with some or maybe all of these dealers. When I asked the MB dealer in KY for an explanation for the ~ 8000 mi on the Brilliant Blue AMG GT-R that had never been registered, I got a similar story about it just being a demo. I'm not sure what motivated my local dealer to investigate further, but one of the reports he emailed me showed the car had been returned on a hauler requiring a wheel and tire replacement and indicating there was some some body damage. When I confronted the selling dealer with that info they were pretty sheepish and suddenly willing to negotiate.

I did keep track of the car and eventually the KY dealer did sell it, but, never updated the listing to be more truthful about the car's history. I suspect the new owner was none the wiser.

Wow, you would think there would be stronger disclosure laws, especially if a dealer is allowed to sell as New. I think there should be a limit on mileage so stories like this don't occur. Who cars that it was a "demo" car, someone still put a heck of a lot of miles on it, titled or not. I might be okay with a few hundred miles, but after that accidents and damage can happen, and how do you know the dealer just didn't fix it under the table? I guess everyone is different, but for me, if I buy new, I want to get it unused, except for perhaps QC checks at the factory track.

Here is a 1 of 1 one Arabian Grey brought by MB USA to Supercars by the Sea @supercarsbythesea on Instagram. Would make a cool looking Roadster.
