fluid extractor

I am just wondering if it possible to use the fluid extractor to pull the oil out from the sump tank? Knowing it is the sump tank, it contain a good amount of oil so rather than unplug the plastic plug and make the mess due to the gush of oil pouring out, I would like to know if anyone have use the fluid extractor to pull out the oil from the sump?

I have used my extractor but there are baffles inside the tank and I could not get at all the oil so I still had to remove the plug. So with that said I just do the plug removal approach since I have to be under the car to get the engine sump and filter anyways.

Thanks Katie for your response. My approach is to extract as much fluid as possible using the extractor so when I unplug the plastic plug on the sump tank, the oil would not gush out too much and make too much mess.

Then absolutely you can use the extractor. Just use a very small size tube to go down the dip stick opening and that will get you the most.

So today I did the oil change on the GT. It is alot easier than I anticipated. I first drove the car and got the temperature of the oil to the normal operating temperature. I pull the car to my garage and remove the dipstick and start the process of extracting the oil. Jack the front jacking point and lift the front wheel high enough to place the ramp on the wheel.

I went under the car and saw the draining plug which i remove and then did the filter change. after done will all of this, I went to the left front of the car to pull off the sumptank plastic plug and not much of the oil drain out.

Again, the process is very easy ...much easier than doing it on the Porsche 993 I had.

The cost for 7 quart of oil is around $30 plus the filter which the entire thing cost me about 1 hour of my time and $50 of oil and filter.

The most time consuming is the part where I need to jackup the car to have it put on the ramp.... =)

Whoever plan to do this themself, JUST DO IT....it is very simple!!

There you go yes its pretty simple. Now the transmission fluid change took me more time than a engine oil change but it was a lot better than paying the dealer $900 plus to do it.

Hi Katie,

Transmission fluid would be my next project. I am worried that with only the ramp, I will have a difficulty doing this project.

I think I recalled someone here mentioned that the dealer want to charge $2000 for this job and that is somthing I would not want to pay. I might have to bother my buddy and ask to use his lift. With the lift, it would be alot easier.
