New to AMGs
Hey Everyone,
I've been looking into getting my first European car (I currently have a Chevy Camaro Zl1/1LE 6-Speed) and I like to do track days mainly with my vehicles so I have been looking at an AMG-GTR (non Pro) since during my research it appears to be the best bang for your buck European track car under 300K and years ago I sat in a base model AMG GT at a car show and I was very impressed with the car, it felt like being in a fighter jet and looked just as pretty both on the outside and inside.
I will realistically probably track the car at least 10-12 times a year so I am possibly also looking at getting upgraded brake rotors/lines, turbos/downpipes and some extra aerodynamic bits (canards, rear diffuser etc.) and I was looking at Renntech since it looks like from what I have come across, they have the widest selection of aftermarket parts for these cars.
What are some impressions you all of had of the AMG-GTR as a track car in stock form (along with any constant parts failures etc.) plus can anybody who has had any aftermarket work with Renntech parts chime in as far as what you have you seen in the long run after tracking the car with any of their parts as far as failures are concerned?

The AMG GTR is solid, planted, wide, centered, however a bit tail happy. It has excellent steering feedback of cars I've driven. The car doesn't feel floaty, it feels very predictable. The car has a very good drivers seat set up, it is a bit long on the nose but you will overcome that. The engine response is excellent given turbo lag consideration. The car has a very rigid frame, you don't feel that the chassis is "ahead of you". Oversteer is there but realtively minimal...the 4 wheel steering helps. The cars engine symphonic feedback compensates for any other minor shortcomings. The interior is stellar.
Too broad and subjective a question...I would also watch tons of youtube vids about the different reviews...

Zephyr said it well. No need to repeat anything. I run a GTS with the supporting mods you are considering. Below are a couple laps for a look. Video is a bit shaky, need a new mount. But you get the idea. First vid is a lap at Autobahn CC in Joliet. Second vid is my PB at Gingerman in Michigan. All driven this week. Im sure a better driver will turn a faster lap. People love the sound. Many GT3 drivers (I can hang with many, not all) come up to me in the paddock and tell me how surprised they were to see the GTS keep pace in a sea of Porsches. I was the only AMG in the past 3 events I attended. The car has a beautiful character. You are mostly splitting hairs between a sorted 1LE and GT variants when it comes to capability, so don’t expect a night and day difference. The AMG will be more approachable on the street however. When it comes to attraction, this car is pure magnetic. It is loved by young and old.
Brakes brakes brakes
Brake fluid. Brake cooling and titanium backing plates. Then brake pads and rotors when it’s time to replace. Add on aero I find for the GT line is mostly cosmetic. And lastly, tires. If your going to do 10-12 days a year your going to need inventory lol... enjoy!
