Back in an AMG

Hey guys,

So almost after a 10 year hiatus since my C63AMG, I am back into an AMG with a. 2016 GTS. Over the last decade, I've had a plethora of different cars (21 in 10 years) and each time the car ADD has kicked in and made me move on to something else. This time I am hoping to stick to it for a while as the plan for the next vehicle after this would be a super car of some kinda. Just for reference my last few cars over the past decade have been 2011 C63AMG, 2013 E92 M3, 2012 X5M, 2016 F80 M3, 2017 440xi, 2018 540xi, 2018 M2, 2008 Aston Martin Vantage, 2019 Aston Martin Vantage, 2019 E450 Coupe and now the GTS.

The plan is to do some mods slowly on this one to make it mine as I never like to keep them stock. The first question I have is about he Panamericana grille and if it is possible to do this on the 16 GTS? As much as I like the diamond grille, I prefer the aggressiveness of the other one and I had that changed out on my E as well. But I haven't been able to find more solid information as I read somewhere that you can't just swap out the grille and that you need the entire GTR front end but I am not sure.

Another thing that immediately comes to mind is how does it work if I want to have a fixed spoiler installed? One of those big ones? What happens to the stock spoiler that automatically comes up and down - is there a module that deactivates it and leaves it on or something?

Thanks guys. Loving the car so far, only drove it home from the dealer a couple of days ago and want to wait until I get 3M on it before I drive more but the visceral feeling while driving and the road presence alone makes me like it better than all my previous cars, including my new Aston Martin (sharing the same engine).

Why didn’t you just buy a facelift GTS? It will be hard to aftermarket it and get it painted to match. Then you have to re-wrap the front. All is $$.

This is penny wise and dollar foolish.

the 2018+ GTS also have more power, new carbon fiber drive shaft( after the earlier recalls. MKe sure yours was fixed).

it also still has warranty to boot.

I would have passed.

I think it is very similar to the 2019 Vantage. The interior of the Aston is nicer.

just my $ 0.02

Congrats on your new whip!

Plenty of resources here for your upcoming mods.
Also lots threads discussing adding fixed spoilers (stock, Darwin Pro, Brabus, etc.) and disabling the adaptive mechanism. I think Ronac is the go-to guy and has created a plug-n-play module for that. Good thread here: https://mbworld.org/forums/coupe-roa...r-disable.html

I was contemplating between the one I got and a 2019 GTR in Green Magno and while no doubt that one looks much better out of the box, it was around 40K or so more. With my issues about not being able to keep anything for a year I have taken way too big of $ hits on new cars in the past like the Aston Martin. So I wanted to minimize the depreciation going forward and the GTS just happen to become available and it is pretty much mint. So much so that I am getting it xpel stealth wrapped and it doesn't need any touch ups and had 20k km's. So it will satisfy my itch equally as nicely and not hit me that much financially. I mod all my cars more or less so I don't mind doing that. Also, I got 2 year certified warranty with this.

It was a no brainer really.

Thank you for that. I shall start exploring!

I also have a 2016 (this summer I will have it three years) GTS, and for someone who has owned as many cars as I have the fact that I still have it says a lot about the car. I have driven just about every model (and year) and there is nothing the GTS cant do (at least legally on the street) that the other models can. I don't care much for wings (unless you actually need downforce but just be sure you balance it in front) and other decorations that do nothing to improve the cars function. I don't mean to be insulting but I always advise people to learn to handle their (especially a performance car) car without any nannies (if you have ever driven a 650hp car that has none of them you will likely realize you are not as good a driver as you think). I use an empty office park and though I am not anywhere near the driver I once was I am still probably better than most, and the GTS is a handful without traction control and pushed. My car had its steering rack replaced and some suspension parts replaced last year and it is a lot better than it was when I bought it. I changed the steering (autistic people sometime have tactile issues I cannot stand suede steering wheels) wheel and put on larger paddles and I also have a throttle controller (I can feel drive by wire hesitation that most people don't), and if there was one thing I could change it would be the transmission shift time, it seems just a bit slow to me. Other than that I have not added any more power to the car (that is something I almost always do), I actually do not think it needs it, and that says a lot about the car as well. You see I own one of those 650hp (under 2200lbs) without any nannies so I have pretty good idea about how much power you can actually (and safely) use. Just to be clear the cars you bought in the last ten years OP that would be an average year for me. I hope you take the time to really get to know the GTS, it is an amazing machine in the right hands.
