Drivers who have or have had Toyo R888R tires
I'm trying to get an idea of really how noisy these tires are. I have a roadster, and I don't love annoying noise, but the R888R's seem like they have the launch grip I really want.
If you own or have owned these tires, could you tell me, in your opinion, how bad the noise is at normal cruising speeds? Say 60-70 mph?
Are there any other tires to consider if I want maximum grip besides PS4S and R888R?

I have the R888R(19/20)and the PS4(20/21) and the grip is better on the R888R's but they are louder. The PS4 are pretty damn good overall. I mainly use the R888R when I do any kind of track event.

For 1/4 and 1/2 mile runs I wonder if it would be safe to switch just the rears to r888rs, and back again (to PS4S) for street use?

If there’s a better all round street tyre than the PS4S I’m not sure what it is, but I certainly would never recommend having a completely different brand of tyre on one end of the car versus keeping all 4 tyres of the same type.

I had R888R on the rear and PS4S on the front. I had 700whp and it hooked up in 2nd gear. A lot of roll racing guys run that setup across various platforms. But I honestly didn't like how the car behaved with mismatched tires. I think even more than the brand, having a regular street tire up front and R compound race tire in the back, I felt nervous pushing the car in turns.

I am in need of replacing my tires, so the consensus is basically the Toyo's if you want hook up and live with the noise and Michelin's if you want DD "comfort" and less noise.
I wouldnt call my GTS a DD but I will not take it to the track.
So.... go with Toyos as they hook up better and live with the noise?
I live in the Chicagoland area so the roads here are.... well they are anything else but smooth, anywhere.

R888R for those with high hp that want every last bit of grip.

I found the rears at simple tire.com. They had 10 of the 315s in stock when I ordered. Never heard of them before, but I ordered the rears and had them in 4 days. My fronts should be here tomorrow from discount tire, so I can get them on in time for Gingerman this weekend.

I am also looking to upgrade my stockers soon. I am considering the R888R’s. Don’t track much and the GTS is not my daily driver.
I am waiting on my HPFP do arrive, as have it installed along with an E85 tune and possibly meth just for extra cooling. Once I have attained my power goal, it will be time to upgrade the tires.
Regarding tire size how about going with 325/35/20 on the rear? If I have H&R’s, will it cause rubbing? I just thought a bit of a larger side wall can add a bit of cushion in potholes/cracks etc, and fill up the wheel well a bit more which are two nice benefits.
Any thoughts?

Same here. Picked up a pair of 315/30/20 for the rears last week. (Fronts are good for another couple of track days.) After some shopping they seemed to be the only shop that had them in stock, including Tire Rack. The R888R have noticeable road noise, but are light years better than the old R888.
Looking forward to some Gs in first through third gear instead of listening to my tires spin.
