Can you let me know how much a replacement battery for a 2018 AMG GTR should be.

My local dealer is saying it will cost almost 3000 dollars.

Also the reason it needs replaced there is a fault coming up on the dash. The car has had no difficulties starting at all. This seems to be an intermittent fault. Could leads need to be tightened, They also said i will need to replace the alternator for another 3000. Any suggestions?

Where is your local dealer?

 

What are they doing ,pulling the engine to change the alternator? What fault is coming up on the dash? How many miles? There are a bunch of good minds on this forum,tell us/them more so maybe it can be solved for less than 6K

Get a high quality OBD II reader and find out what exact fault is causing the CEL.

Also, if your car is starting fine I doubt the Li battery is the culprit. Put it on the supplied charger and fully charge over a couple of days. Then clear the fault with the OBD II reader and see if it reoccurs.

Are you not still under warranty? If so an alternator replacement would be a warranty item. However I doubt there’s anything wrong with it either.

Some owners have electrical gremlins caused by a chaffed wire in the loom in the left rear compartment. I would check there, and find a new dealer to care for my car.

Go to another dealer and get a 2nd opinion. Request an estimate before repair.

Also, as other posters suggested, see if you are still under the factory warranty and/or a CPO.

Also, DO NOT SHARE THE CURRENT DEALER ASSESSMENT WITH THE 2ND DEALER. Just tell them the problem and let then determine the solution.

The lithium ion battery is meant to last the life of the vehicle unless not maintained. They are expensive, I don't have the info in front of me, but it was over $2k for the battery plus install. Do not use a regular trickle charger on your GTR as it requires a Lithium Ion specific charger.

 

What's with this info? And, the V8 engine probably costs $1,080.78 to replace at Walmart.

 

There's a few different battery sizes, mostly around $1500 list. alternator list around $1400. that's parts cost only. battery replacement will require some programming/coding so more difficult than few screws to replace but not $1500 labor worth. Alternator probably 4-5hrs of labor, but I have never done one. Typical dealership overcharging.

 

Mercedes of Delrey is offering their AMG for $50k over right now.
