Battery Replacement A0019828108 - 2017 AMG GT

Got 2017 AMG GT, that needs a new battery. Old one won't hold charge anymore. Its an AGM battery (A 001 982 81 08).
What is everyone go to place to get these replaced? Google search yields a lot of "out of stock" batteries available.

Thanks in advance!

If you are looking for AGM, Interstate Batteries offered at Costco are tough to beat, usually readily available, and you should be able to find one matching the OEM GT Battery dimensions and specs.

You can also turn this into an opportunity for the much lighter weight OEM Li Battery used in newer GTs, but they are ~$1000-1500 and will likely need coding

There are two places I usually go for batteries:

Autozone's Duralast batteries are good, good warranty and I've used them several times on car builds I've done. For the better cars like my Bentley and my GT, I'm fond of Bosch AGM batteries. Bosch AGM for the 2017 AMG GT is available, along with six other brands (all available) right now at Rock Auto.

I've seen others mention coding the battery. What does that mean? Is it a must? Why do some batteries need it and others do not?

Modern EMSs are using BEMs (Battery energy modules). BEMs are monitoring battery use cycles and use an algorithm that also includes a time element distantly similar to an onboard oil change monitor. In essence, how many voltage peaks and lows are being recorded and how well the battery recovers charge over time. As batteries get older they charge less and less 100% and the BEM is estimating this. At some time, a "Service Battery" dash light appears and essentially time to replace (with the attempt of not leaving you stranded somewhere with a dead battery).

When the battery is changed, however, the BEM needs to be reset with the new battery data. Just like an oil service monitor needs to be reset to notify you properly when the next change is due. Modern batteries use a Qcode that is read by the reset tool.

Not every new car has a BEM, but one clue is the engine stop on idle feature. Because this feature shuts the engine down at stoplights, and restarts, the battery use cycles are crazy high compared to the old days. In fact, some BEMS automatically shut off the "engine off" feature when the battery ages to a point when it is much less than 100% recharged on a consistent basis.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

OEM Li Battery have a LIN- bus Connektor. If use a other, you must code out the LI battery.

Kind Regards

Hi,

No. It's not about the error message.

If you install an AGM battery, the front SAM notices that there is no longer a signal on the battery LIN bus. Then you get an error message.(CEL)

De-coding means you must "tell" your front SAM (this is the "relay/fuse box" in the passenger footwell) that your vehicle no longer has a lithium battery (code 98).

That means:
First delete code 98 in the MB car pass (VDOC).
then carry out a software update for the front SAM.
This gives you the software without Code 98 and your front SAM no longer "recognizes/misses" a lithium battery and therefore no longer produces an error message.(CEL)

All of your vehicle's equipment is listed in the VDOC. This means that the correct software versions are compared with your equipment and uploaded online.
Without the change in the VDOC you will "Activate" Code 98 again in a future update.

A willing Mercedes dealer can certainly do this.

“BenzNinja” also offers this.
