Air bag should be the yellow one. I am saying that from experience with other cars though. Yellow is a standard industry color (along with orange) to designate an SRS connector.

Any chance of seeing how to trim carpets on cage install

I have ordered the roll bar from Mercteil my GTR already has the Recaro seats from factory. Australian delivery. I wanted the cage to complete the clubsport package while they are still available.

However does anybody have advice re cutting the trim for the install. Eg best tools to use and how to do it neatly?

And help would be appreciated. BTW, I ordered the cage in black as the car is Jupiter red and they dont do that colour however with red the black cage should look the goods.

bump on the thread. I have the same rollbar coming in from Mercteil to be installed on my pro.

Does anyone know if it should be a direct bolt on? Anything I need to watch for the installation? Appreciate any pointers.

Another opportunity for someone to make a “cut” template for the group on how to neatly cut carpet/trim……

I have been kicking it around for a while myself, need to get it in gear and order!

What is the current thinking about the cage and shoulder harness install? Do the seats need to be changed to the non-reclining bucket seats?

Do they, no, they don’t. I know, I know, an argument will ensue……
Ultimately, if just getting out there to enjoy some track days, you eventually will just want to be better supported in the seat.

At some point, when you are going really fast, getting more and more serious, and want the ultimate best of the best set ups, then you’ll probably change to a race bucket seat.

There is a AMG GTS that runs GridLife Time Attack with a Factory/stock USA market seat, roll bar, and harnesses.

There are multiple people on here, myself included, that run a 4 point harness with the standard seat.

So basically just running the the MB half cage and the 4 point harness that attaches to the half cage? I am currently driving/tracking an F80 with MCS shocks/SPL bits/StopTech BBK etc., and certainly the stock seat is the weak point at this point. However, I don't want to modify the car further to swap out the seats, and the idea of the GTR stock seats and a 4 point harness seems pretty attractive. Plus the noise is better than the bimmer

Do you have the competition seats in your BMW? Those work well with a harness bar and harnesses…..

As far as Mercedes, yes a roll bar, and harnesses work really well on factory seats to hold you in better. And that equals less driver fatigue and soreness from holding yourself in place with 3-point factory belts.

I just have the base M3 seat which even with side bolsters at maximum setting is pretty lose fitting in the shoulders. Since the back of the seat is just a plastic shell, there is no way to run a harness through the seat. Basically, I would need to get a different seat if I want to run a harness and avoid getting really beat up at the end of the track day.

I like the idea of the dual purpose car that can be taken to the track or to Napa for some wine tasting. The GTR might fit the bill.

The GTR always fits the bill, love that nobody really knows about them much in the big picture….but once people experience they fall in love!
I enjoy being the one nobody knows about in a sea of Corvettes, BMW’s, and Porsche’s!

I am not looking for an argument at all and I have been in the middle of this discussion a couple of times.

The stock AMG GT seats do not appear to be designed to be used for track belts. I know that they look like they are but this is cosmetic. If you take one apart you will see what I am talking about. The pieces around the "belt holes" are cosmetic and will potentially deform under the pressure of the belts in an accident..

If your goal is to be safe on track in case of an accident, get a racing seat and proper harnesses.

The issue here is that everything is great 99.9% of the time. It's that .1% where you need the safety that a proper seat and harnesses can deliver.

I just don't like seeing people get hurt at the track when it is avoidable. A proper cage, belts and hans can go a long way to protecting you when it all goes wrong.

My .02, do with it as you please.

Did you end up installing the AMG fixed bucket seat, or did you get something else?

just install the 4 point harness on the standard seat and then buckle the standard 3 point seat belt and ....voila! you now have a 7 point belt and safest setup ever
