Hi,

Do not speak very good English. Sometimes I don't understand everything exactly.
Hope you understand me and my part time friend Google translator. :-)

My thoughts:
When the tailgate vibrates, it can only move if the preload is not high enough.

Would do like this:
Align the tailgate with the adjustable spacers for the optimal gap.
Then set the lock so low that you get the correct preload.
This is really more than expected.
Shure it take several attempts.

Change the lock position on the body side.
Pull off the lock trim in the trunk vertically upwards.

Kind regards

Stenzel

Yes, I understand your English perfectly…
I had the most senior AMG tech at my dealership (who is actually very good) look into adjusting the latch on the body side, and he said it can’t be adjusted on the AMG GT.

In North America, we do get the passenger side floor mat clips, but no rear fog light, and perhaps more interior lighting. I'm wondering if the wire harness has a plug for the rear fog light, and it's just a matter of buying the right reverse/fog light module, and installing the switch on the lower dash? I guess I will remove the rear reverse light (centrally mounted on the non-GTR models) and see.
Hello did you ever retrofit fog lights, I am facing this challenge for my 2016 GTS if I want to take it to the UK? As you say NA AMG GTs dont have this feature!

I didn’t. I think it’s just the rear fog light that NA cars are missing. The rear fog light is part of the reverse light module. It would be easy to add if the wire harness includes a fog lamp connector and switch, but my AMG tech says it does not.

I’m disappointed that Mercedes chose not to add a rear fog light for the NA GTs. My B250 had a rear fog light, as does my 2019 G Wagon. Every Mercedes sold in North America has a fog light except the GT?!

Thx for the info. cr@p you need this for car to be road legal in the UK its either gonna be technically complicated to run new harness and ergo $$$ or make it impossible to take the car back.

I have heard of remotely operated fog lamps. You stick one on the rear and there’s a remote to control it. You would tap into the power source for the reverse lights.

Hi,

According to WIS it seems that the CD and US versions don't have rear fog lights. I have no idea why that is.

I don't know if it's easy to retrofit, especially since there is no MB code for a rear fog light that I know of. Maybe a coder can help you here.

If you want it original:

The reversing lights with rear fog light:
Part number: A218 906 21 00

Light switch with rear fog light:
Part number: A212 905 05 51

I don't know if the CD/US speedometer unit has a rear fog control light. At least there are different units for US and GB.
A Canadian unit might have one.

The signal paths are follows:

Light switch requests fog light from Front-SAM via Lin bus.

Front SAM requests the indicator light from the speedometer unit via CAN B via AMG Gateway via CAN Hmi.

Front SAM requests the rear fog light from Rear SAM via Can B.

Rear SAM output (connector 5H pin 24) switches on the rear fog light (here it is pin 2) via a black 0.5mm² cable (over pin 10 on the outside rear bumper cable connector).

I don't know the US version. You will need to add the above wire from the Rear SAM to the connector and then to the fog light.

Replace light switch. This should match right away. (no extra wire)

Replace fog/reversing light (3 pin. maybe also the plug?)

It works (Don´t belive it) or then you will need a good coder.

Check for fuse f5 Rear-SAM -> 7,5A

Best regards

Stenzel

I’m in Canada and the cars are the same as US cars (no rear fog light).
I’ve been meaning to remove the light switch to see if there is a wire harness for the rear fog light; but the senior AMG mechanic who services my cars assures me there isn’t.

Hi Surge,

The times when a simple wire went from the switch to the lamp are over. Unfortunately.

Only runs via bus systems and control units. All rear lights are switched by the rear-SAM. (The control unit with the fuses by the tool kit)
Hence the signal path described above.

Info:
Canadian versions and US versions have several differences. (here e.g. the speedometer unit)

Best regards

Stenzel

Indeed, unfortunate!

But do you think there is a wire from where the fog lamp on/off switch would be to the rear SAM?

Hi,

No, as I already wrote, it is only possible via various bus systems.
The status of the ignition and the driving lights are also queried here.
Electrically it's not a problem. Max. one wire from the rear SAM to the fog light.
The rest is coding.
Here's the real problem.

Best regards

My AMG tech at the dealer will do the coding. The problem for me is running the wire without taking apart the interior!

Hi Surge,

Only remove the panels on the right and left side in the trunk and on the lock panel (only pull up). That's pretty easy.
A cable (black 0.5mm² ) from Rear-SAM (connector 5H -> pin 24) to the right side. (There is a wiring harness, parallel to the lock carrier)
On the right is the passage of the wiring harness for the bumper.
Underneath in the underbody is the rear bumper main connector. (pin 10)
From rear bumper wiring harness connector, to the fog lamp. (Pin 2)
It's nothing more. No other wires needed.

Did the same for 2 extra reversing lights. (GTR has the unusable reversing light in the spoiler base plate)
Was basically the same.

Tape the wire with in and outside tape to the stock harness.
Then its all like stock.

Best regards

Stenzel

Hi,

Still owe this answer.

The thing is, the car-side lock isn't really adjustable.
However, you can easily increase the "Pre load".
The lock is screwed under the lock carrier.
You can simply put washers between the lock and the lock carrier.
The stock screws reach up to approx. 5mm.

Kind regards.

Stenzel

Love the GTC!

This is a reply to the original post on this topic. Sharing my perspective to help other car addicts as we all ponder what to buy next. Much like trader114, I’ve owned everything over the last 30 years, at least 8, 911’s, many of them turbos from 993 to 2014 turbo s cab was the last one. I’ve also owned a Ferrari 360 & 430. I always admired the GTC so I bought the gtc edition 50 roadster with 6k miles and it’s absolutely one of my favorites of all time!! Having the v8 TT with that long front end and wide rear end is epic! I love the look of the car & that it’s a real drivers car, the steering is heavy, great feedback, traction & style. It is the perfect combo of looks, power, comfort & exclusivity. And, it’s just so damn mean looking! I’m 55 and it’s perfect for cruising or driving hard. My wife never rides in my cars, she’s just not into it so that’s not applicable. I’ve had this car for a little over a year, put 6k miles on it & I highly recommended it. Plus, I think there are a great value for what u get! Another tip, if you want to appreciate the car you currently own, lets someone else drive it and follow them in their car., U both gain more appreciation for how your car looks on the road! My son & I switch cars & take a drive, it’s fun! Bottom line, I don’t think I’ll ever sell the GTC Edition 50 but will most likely add a 458 coupe. Of all the Porsches I’ve owned I never went in to the garage just to look at them. You do when u have a Ferrari, it’s as much a sculpture as it is a car. So damn beautiful from every angle! I think Ferraris are a lot like a super model, high maintenance, hard to get, expensive… but ever single second you spend with her is special! PS, I’ve also snuck into the garage to peak at the gtc, that says something.

Congratulations! I fully agree @DesertDog18 .
I found the 992 911 a complete bore to drive, as a comparison. I will hopefully never sell my GTC coupe. I have zero interest in the new AMG GT or the SL63 - I think these are lame model redesigns.

Stenzel, can you please help me understand how to remove the plastic molding on the rear window hatch? I have a clinking sound I think something inside needs to be tightened. Is it a screw in the handle then just pull it off? Should I use air bladders to push it off? It's been driving me crazy and there is no videos or instructions on how to remove it safely. Thanks!
