Windshield.

Tiny crack in the right lower windshield appeared this morning and now spread about 8 inches. No impact. No rocks. Anyone have experience with this? Fayetteville Mercedes doesn’t even do auto glass. Apparently there are 3 windshields in the US at $2000 each.

Definitely a problem. Before you commit to install, make sure you have the rear view mirror adapter. My car sat for two weeks as a result.

Windshield is $2500 for the glass in my area. I talked with Safelite. They can do the replacement, but the glass itself is a MB factory glass, so they're going to MB for it.

I'd rather have Safelite do the replacement than the dealer, any day. And likely, if you go to the dealer, they'll sub it to safelite or another glass company anyway.

$2500 is steep, but still nothing like my Bentley which is the same situation, no aftermarket glass and the OEM WS is $6,000.

Sounds like you might well have a valid warranty claim if it’s a stress fracture and not impact related.

I had Safelite replace the windshield with OEM glass on my etron and they did a brilliant job. Most; (all?) OEM dealerships will sub this work out.

Safelite is legit. If you are paying cash there is a lot of leeway in the pricing. I had a chip filled and when I went for the appointment the guy behind the counter was a patient of mine and I could see what he did with the discounts etc and it saved a fair percentage. In some states your auto insurance will cover it. In Florida there is zero deductible for windshield replacement.

With Safelite replacing a windshield, I would almost suggest making an appointment with the dealership for realigning the cameras and sensors about a week after the installation. That way if any faults show up you already have the appointment and you're not waiting a month to get the car into the dealership. Just my 2¢.

I use EXOSHIELD, which is clear PPF for the windshield. For ~$200 to install, I think it’s worth it.
