The class does allow AR1’s, a few of my competitors run them but the issue is that they don’t have the sizing available for what we need yet. We’re limited to 285’s in the rear. We’re running the Yokohama A052’s with 285’s in the rear and 275’s up front.

A052s are still a great tire. I may consider trying them out next time. Are you carrying max stock negative camber? I am hoping to get a bit past -2.5 in front but haven’t found a solution.

Yeah we bought the shim kit, should be around -3.0 in the front and -2.4 in the rear.

The cage fits great! The install only required some minor trimming. Really happy with it so far.

With a 2nd top 10 finish in a row coming in 7th against the fastest road legal cars in the country, Gridlife Midwest was definitely a successful weekend. By nature, drivers are greedy, we always want to go faster and that’s exactly how I felt throughout the weekend. With first through 7th only separated by a little over 2 seconds, we were in the mix, but sadly due to an exhaust plug melting, we were down around 100 whp after the first session meaning that I couldn’t improve on my time of 1:35.589. Although as a driver this was frustrating, the fact that I was able to put together a lap that fast in the very first session of the weekend has given me the confidence knowing that it’s not going to be long until we’re fighting for wins this season. With a 7th place finish and a time so close to the front, we also were able to secure a solid starting position in the championship points standings.

Was the event at Gingerman? If so 1:35 is crazy fast. Great job!

Yup, it was at Gingerman! The crazy part is that lap was in traffic. First flying lap of the weekend. Shortly after that the car got into a soft limp mode since the exhaust flap plug melted. I definitely think I could have gotten into the low 1:34’s and maybe high 1:33’s. Next year we’ll get it for sure. The next event is at autobahn country club at the end of the month.

Interesting. I have seen practically melted exhaust flap connectors on a street car too. Surprised me, those connectors are not well protected from the heat at all.

Suggestion - when you replace the connector consider wrapping it with exhaust heat shield tape. The tape used to wrap exhaust headers.

Best,

Our more recent event was at NJMP Thunderbolt and it was definitely the most competitive weekend with this car yet. Streetmod is one of the most competitive time attack classes in the world and to be well within the mix so early on in this car’s development is definitely a shocker. Temps were well into the 90’s all weekend long with track temps well over 130. I’ve never ran this car in conditions like these so I really didn’t know what to expect. Ended up holding on to third place up until the final day where we lost it by 7 tenths, and although that was frustrating, I’m still very happy with 4th in class and 5th overall with a 1:26.71. Next up is Mid Ohio and I really feel like this car will be very fast on that track.

Haven’t posted on here in a bit and there’s been a few events in that time so here’s a quick recap of all of them!

After NJMP was Mid Ohio! Ended up getting a 1:32.6. Definitely could have gone faster since this was a sloppy lap, but had a dampening reservoir line rupture due to getting pinched between suspension components in a bad spot, still a great weekend though!

Next up we have Lime Rock Park. Ended up getting a 57.6 and a top 5 finish! Figured out some valuable suspension setup changes too towards the end of the weekend but unfortunately track conditions didn’t allow for any improvement in lap time.

The most recent event was Alpine Horizon at Pikes Peak International Raceway. Ended up getting second place with a 59.6! The car felt amazing although we were at a power deficit to first place being down about 10 mph on the back straight. That won’t be the case next year though since we’re planning on a turbo upgrade!

You sir, are a true track warrior and I admire all that you've done since your first post.

Enjoy reading every word you post.

Dear Kal,

very impressive build.
I've had a gts tracktool aswell in the past and now I am tracking my gtr pro.
Can you tell me about your experience with the verkline subframe. Would you recommend that piece and whats the improvement its making?

With best regards and thank you very much.

Joe

Are you running stock seats with harnesses?

Haven’t posted an update here in a bit! But to answer a few earlier questions before talking a hit some recent mods and events, I would definitely recommend the Verkline Subframe. The weight savings and added stiffness is definitely something that will always help on track, but another benefit that doesn’t get talked about enough is how much easier it makes working on the car in that area. Everything is just so much easier to get to compared to the stock subframe. Also, I am running harnesses with the stock seats and they really do work great with them. I am planning on getting a set of carbon fiber racing seats eventually for some weight savings though.

Now on to some new mods for this year, we’re now running Pure 900 turbos as well as some added bracing to the chassis under the rear hatch to support the wing! Along with that, over the next month or so we have some big aero updates coming to the car with help from AMB Aero to help optimize our current setup as well as add some new key components. Fuelab is also developing a new low pressure fuel pump for the car which will be over double the rate of the stock pump in order to go for even more power!

So on to the first event of the season at COTA for Super Lap Battle! We were a bit out classed since they have a slightly different rule setup compared to the main series and class I run in with Gridlife. So we had more weight, less tire, less aero and much more street oriented compared to most of the cars in Limited class at super lap battle. Even with some big deficits with a car not built to that rule set, I still finished in the top 5 getting a 2:20.375 around COTA on 285 200 TW tires!

Now onto the first Gridlife NOS Energy Track Battle round of the season at Carolina Motorsports Park, the series the car is built for. With a new format for this season setup as a race weekend structure with practice sessions, 3 qualifying sessions and a top 5 podium sprint which decides your finishing position with only two laps to set your best time. I was able to get second place at a 1:37.424 in some less than ideal track conditions after a drift session!

I think that I have said this before but in case I didn’t. The stock seats are not made for harnesses and a HANS device.

The first thing you should do for your safety is buy a racing bucket for your car. It’s worth every penny.

Using harnesses with a seat that is not designed for it puts your life at unnecessary risk in an accident.
