I can hear it inside the car but from outside it may not noticeable to others. If you love the loud BOV sound when you let go of the gas, you need to get another BOV instead of the Renntech one.

The blow-off valve releases the pressure from the turbocharger before the inlet manifold — when the throttle is closed the air has nowhere to go. It stops the air from surging and going back through the compressor wheel. It's designed as a safety feature as far as the turbo is concerned. If this pressure were not vented in some way, a shock wave would form and back up into the turbo, causing it to stall. This is very bad for the turbo.

Hi,

You are almost right. It is true that the turbocharger would be severely slowed down when the boost pressure built up (then turbo speed up to 190,000 rpm) if the air flow rate decreased. (e.g. when shifting up)
This is bad, because the turbo has to be accelerated again. In the past, pressure-controlled pneumatic real blow-off valves were built into turbo engines. (Open e.g. from the maximum boost pressure)

Today, these (electric) valves (overrun air recirculation valve) are controlled directly by the ECU.
You can, for example, control this earlier and completely independently (e.g. with a gear change) and do not have to wait until the pressure increases.

The compressed air is directed back into the intake path in front of the turbo. (Valves connected between the intercooler input and the air filter output)
The turbo is practically short-circuited. In this way, the turbo does not work against pressure and remains at speed.
Today, all petrol turbo engines have these valves.

The offered adapters bring no additional security. Those aren't BOV either. There are max. BOA (blow off adapter)
These are screwed behind the existing valves and only cause, the air to be routed to the outside instead into the intake tract. Then it hisses a bit.

It is also an unfounded claim that they would perform. It is also claimed that it would be better to direct the compressed air (= warm) to the outside. I think these are fairy tales.

Don't want to badmouth the adapters. They sound funny. I have also installed some.

Best regards

Stenzel
