Metallic Selenite grey vs Matte

I have a 2016 amg GTS edition 1 in the metallic selenite grey color. Although I do like the metallic grey color, it doesn’t really do it for me, So I’ve been tossing around the idea of either putting on expel stealth PPF (which I understand will give it a matte look) or having it wrapped to a matte grey, very similar to factory matte color. The PPF is super expensive from the quotes I’ve gotten, around 7k. The regular wrap is about half that. My primary goal is to change the look of it. Any thoughts/opinions? Anyone have a wrap done on their amg?

A good comparison on the difference

It's likely going to be cheaper to do a spray wrap, or vinyl wrap, depending on your location.

I should clarify, I meant vinyl wrap when I said ‘regular’ wrap. I’m from NJ and prices are stupid high around here for a quality job.

Just sand it down with some #60 course to get the look you want.

Do the matte PPF, you get the look you are after AND protection of the paint under it. Also more durability, and some self healing properties.
Vinyl will do the color change trick, but too thin to protect, and bad washing/drying habits will swirl vinyl quickly and then you’re stuck.

I have the Selenite Matte on my Pro and would prefer to have the gloss Selenite look. I am considering to put gloss PPF on the change the look :-) Strange how we all want what we don't have....

I have the Edition 50 with the graphite grey magno - matte. It's awesome. Unique and beautiful. By wrapping yours, you get the best of both worlds. Protection and special matte look. Also, you can revert back to boring gloss anytime. Triple winner.

Fantastic thread!

I have recently been looking for a GTC Roadster. I didn't want the gloss gray, because I have a gloss gray 911 and it seemed too boring with two cars in virtually the same color. I therefore considered a black or a matte gray GTC and I have been leaning towards the matte gray because I like the combination of a gray car and a black soft top.

Today, a dealer who has a nice low milage black GTC roadster proposed that I could wrap it in a matte gray PPF (XPEL brand). In that way I get a three-for-one: a matte grey car, great "self-healing" protection, and the option to turn it into a black car in the future.

Any general thoughts? Also, are they able to fit is neatly around the convertible top, inside door sills, etc. so it doesn't look like a black car that has been wrapped in gray film when you open the door or put the top down? BTW, they quoted $8K for the PPF.

Just make sure you get a top notch professional and you won't see a seam. My guy is so good he takes the doors apart to make sure that the seams and edges are undetectable.

Anyone have any pictures? I found this on the forum https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-c63s-...atte-wrap.html

I’m leaning towards the Matte Xpel Stealth PPF although it’s an arm and a leg!

Look into Prodipper in NY. That's likely going to be your best of both world scenario imo. Autoflex will give you the thickness and protection of PPF, but at a fraction of the cost for a full ppf wrap.

Does Xpel make a coloured version of their ‘Stealth’ film now? If so, I am not aware of it. All the Stealth PPF will do is make the gloss black existing colour of your car and turn it into a matte black. Highly recommended and it will be very well protected as well as look awesome; plus be incredibly easy to maintain.

The only way to actual change the colour is to use a vinyl ‘wrap’ which is much cheaper to install but does not offer the protection of a true PPF.

Please do some additional checking.

That's the benefit of autoflex spray wrap. You can get a color change, and PPF protection, for a lot less than a ppf wrap.

That's what I've had on my GTS for about 3 years and 25k miles now.

So I visited an Expel Installer today to test how the look would be and absolutely fell in love with it! Here’s how it would look on selenite gray. Have an appointment to install the xpel stealth in 3 weeks!
