Finally arrived....

The wait wore me out, being finally able to pick it up and drive it home just did not feel as special as I expected.
Maybe I am too jaded by now....
A couple items I have observed during the 20 mile drive from my dealer and while driving the car over the weekend to my office and to pick up some Honeycrisp apples from Jewel ( addicted to them).
I am not able to set the seat to be comfortable, either not enough legroom or sitting too upright, just not able to find the perfect balance (I’m 6’4 and 225lbs).
Another thing: I am not able to avoid scraping while going over even minor speed bumps, going very slow, at an angle to get the wheels on top of it one at a time and it still makes that dreaded sound.
I am convinced it would be too difficult and no fun at all, driving this car in regular traffic on Chicagoland awful, potholed roads and streets more belonging to Mogadishu then 3rd largest city in US.
I think I should consider getting a truck with a trailer as the best means of getting this car to Autobahn Joliet whenever I have time and desire to exercise this beauty properly.
Here are some obligatory pics:

I feel your pain. My first AMG was a 2001 CL55. It was delivered on September 11. I didn't enjoy that car for a long time.

The interior can be a bit cramped and you are probably at the outer limit, so your inability to find a comfortable sitting position is understandable. Here where I live our streets are pretty terrible, too, and driveways can also be a serious challenge, so that's no surprise. I plan my trips ahead and if I am going to areas where there are potholes or elevated driveways I usually opt to take the etron. (Except that I am about to trade it in for a EQS 580. It will depend on how much ADM the dealer wants and how much he will give me for the etron. I'm headed there in 2 hours to talk turkey.)

I hope things turn around for you.

CONGRATULATIONS I’m real happy you finally got your GTBS.

To put an immediate smile on your face, find a safe place, put the selector in + mode and press the accelerator to the floor. I think you’ll agree It’s unholy fast.

A few car and coffee events and the frustrations will disappear as lots of people pay you and the BS compliments.

Please don’t forget to have the car XPELED, the winshield done in STEK and then ceramic coated. It’s well worth the expense.

Enjoy your new ride

Jerry

Congratulations on a fine example. I found not to push the seat all the way down a better way to be able to recline the back.

I see the problem - too much front down force. Lose the canards.
On a more serious note, isn't the front ride height somewhat mechanically adjustable? Seems like I read that around here somewhere.

Congratulations on your car

As someone who can relate (6 months on an already ordered car), the feelings are familiar. In fact, mine went straight to the PPF installer and now it’s just waiting for me to pick it up. Think I was more excited when I picked up my C8 Corvette until the lugnuts started falling off on the way home!
Anyway, going to pick it up early Friday morning (because it’s going to snow today) and then zip to our other place.
I plan to leave it there to enjoy on the weekends.
Totally agree with the above sentiments to find an open road, early mornings on some back roads.
beat wishes!

Waiting is difficult especially if the car is already built just with missing components and sitting somewhere potentially less protected. But it's worse elsewhere; lead times in Germany on many MB models are up to 2 years. Nothing exotic, GLE coupe is up to 14 months; the shortest lead times are 5 months I think... So we are pretty lucky over here.

That is a beautiful example! If you got it for the right price, there's a lot of money to put back in your pocket on these. The car I sold is out by you for a mere $250k more than the buyer paid.

The BS is so raw that it really is hard to enjoy on anything but a race track and some of the best roads.

Just a thought: grab another person and have them watch underneath the car ... hopefully you'll find that it's just the flexible "air-flow guides" that are rubbing so it's nothing to worry about.

Hopefully, what you _really_ meant was "After the break-in mileage, to put an immediate smile ..." #;-))

Awesome car man!
Maybe it'll grow on you once it warms up and the sun shines again.

Wrong time of year and wrong environment to form your thoughts about this car. If you drive it in the city it's only for the oohs and ahhs. A nice spring day on a flowy back road might change your opinion, but if not, you own a piece of history that won't be repeated. Beautiful.

right car, wrong environment. roads in the Midwest are 3rd world. It's best to take it on track or to good smooth back roads

They really are horrible. I dodged pothole this morning that had to have been caused by a cruise missile coming from Crimea.

Paid MSRP, about $340k and change.
To get the allocation though, bought a GT63S Edition One (almost 2 years ago) and re-sold it back to dealer on the same day (for $30k less then I paid for it).
So in essence, paid $30k over, in the end.

I bet they're kicking themselves in hindsight for that deal! If you're really not a fan of the car then you are sitting on a gold mine.

I used to live in Illinois. Schaumburg, Elgin, Hinsdale, Hoffman Estates....you simply can't own and drive a car like that there. First the suburb streets have way too many traffic lights with no decent stretches of road, the roads are horrible and rough and destructive, their roads are made for trucks and SUVs, they don't care about you and your $350K car....pebbles rocks and pot holes everywhere, cops hiding in every bush waiting to give you a ticket for 5 miles over the limit....its a miserable ownership.

lmao tell me bout it! I used to live in the midwest & regret getting the amg gts and c63 coupe without ppf. Salt, pot holes, pebbles, you name it. It’s hard to enjoy these types of cars & get a sense of what they’re capable of on war zone roads of the midwest. Can’t imagine driving a gt black in chicago. Contrats to the owner for getting the black for msrp! Im jelous

What, you didn't expect this car to be practical, or did you?
