2016 AMG GT s

Today I started my car, put it in R, then inadvertently hit the start button and turned the car off, I then hit the start button again, the car started up, but now I had a solid Yellow check engine light, and the car would no longer go into Park.

I tried a few things, drove a while, tried a few more things, parked it for 2 hours, then on my drive home, I stopped and while still running and the car went into Park, and when I got home it went into Park. That was a nice surprise.

The yellow engine light remains on though.

Thoughts on why this happened, and what is required to turn off that light? (in the future I will be more deliberate in my button pushing, I usually am but was a bit rushed and not paying attention)

cheers

Do you have a code reader? I would check what codes are being thrown and if not serious, it may be as simple as clearing the code with the reader.

Hi, ya that occurred to me as well, I don’t have a reader. Perhaps I should buy one.

What does "sparstically" mean? Periodically? Occasionally? Randomly?

I JUST did this. Put it in reverse to back out of the garage and actually hit the start/stop button. Cel came on and now park button puts it in neutral. What was the solution?

Edit. Got my scanner on it when I got home. Park sensor error, probably from the quick reverse to stop glitched the system. Park is back and everything is cleared and gtg.
