Sign of the times unfortunately but this is also somewhat old-school thinking. The M139 engine is hand build by AMG, something that couldn't be said about any AMG 53 6 cylinder models. It also makes more power than the famous AMG's Hammer and only 40HP less than the AMG GT when introduced.

Yeah, or even us ol' farts who want to do more with our cars than just have a showpiece or status symbol (though I do appreciate the beauty of these cars). $;-))

I'm a member of the BMW club because they actually hold track events, etc. When I suggested this to our local MBZ club, I was told that they "do dinners." Sheesh!

In Canada, Mercedes has not even run the AMG Academy for multiple years. Pretty lame (and a little foolish, given that it used to drive some sales).

Curious, was the blue the same Brilliant Blue on MBs or was it some different custom colour you picked? I am also guessing you didn't end up ordering cars and end up buying dealership stock?

Another reason to buy a Porsche: European delivery is alive and well. MB is a half-rate luxury car marketer wannabe.

I guess Porsche still have the majority of cars made in Europe? Maybe that is why they still have the program?

Looks like BMW and Audi offer ED, based on dealers' websites.

Or because Porsche is a first-rate luxury and performance car producer, unlike MB?

No, it wasn't as deep as the Mercedes brilliant blue. Just a little bit brighter than the Audi Navarra blue metallic. In March 2022 dealer stock was very limited (thus the wrap) and ordering would take months. For an old guy, I could be dead by then. So I took dealer stock.

And it’s not only about $$$ per se. To actually get what you want, after options and a particular model and horsepower in the car needs a lot of horsepower because the chassis is incredibly balanced you’re looking at 175,000.

and then you have to deal with the availability and time on a new car order. Or deal with all the peeps that think the used car is pure gold.

and then you have to mod the exhaust because it sounds like **** from the factory. That’s another $10,000 and then you have to do a few other things blah blah blah.

I see, I understand. Buy now enjoy now for sure. Wrapping was a plan B and I am glad it worked out well.

No. There are quite a few young punks on here that are being disrespectful to the older folks. They have no idea what we have done with previous cars and perhaps have got the mod bug out of their system. I liked the WRC and when the WRX arrived in the States in 2002 I was at the dealership handing them my cash. I then promptly started modding the crap out of it. Bigger turbo, bigger brakes, bigger wheels and I did that work myself out of a storage unit. When I went to a "meet" I was by far the oldest person in the parking lot as everyone looked down at their shoelaces. As my health started to deteriorate and I couldn't use the clutch any longer I gave the car to my nephew who then promptly blew the engine up. Since I couldn't shift for my self any longer I went for a VW GTI w/DSG. It was a fine car and I couldn't leave it alone so I chipped it and installed a cold air intake. It woke it up considerably but when I sold it I returned it back to stock to pass Socal smog.
The GT R came about somewhat by accident as I was outbid on a Ferrari 599. I don't intend to do any modding on it because in my opinion it is just right the way it came from the factory. You can't use the power and handling very much on the street as it is.
As far as maintenance, I have the equipment to do B9 which it needs now. However I'm now in a wheelchair so I will have to farm it out. And I don't trust anybody to work on my stuff.
If you want a real challenge build yourself a Lotus Seven or some sort of homemade vehicle. I am not your typical geezer.

Who was being disrespectful to you? I don't think anyone was bashing older guys in general, it just so happens that the few here who crap on people's cars, for being modded, are older.

I always mod all my cars but unfortunately not much available after market parts at this time for my new SL63. I really need ceramic brake pads and lowering springs. There’s not much feedback on mods on the R232 forum as well.

I have learned not to crap on people who mod their cars. Thus . . . very little feedback. And I tried to explain why I (and possibly other geezers who post here) don't gush over mods when needy youngsters talk about their mods and request feedback -- but only want feedback that supports their mods, which often vandalize a great car. When I have nothing nice to say, I usually don't say it.

And sevenhead is my hero.

That's all.

Sorry to hear your mobility has been greatly reduced. My goal is to still be doing track days when I'm 80 (8 more years) but life may have other plans, so we'll see.

I have great admiration for people who build/mod a track car and, had I not started into this so late in life, would have done so myself. Instead, I "did it the easy way" and got an AMG. Still so much fun. Regardless, I still enjoy talking cars and getting a ride in anything from a Miata to a McLaren, on the track.

To your "challenge" comment ... did something like that in the 1970's. Never took pictures, in those days, so this is the only pic I have ... which I recovered from a very darkened, very blurry, very old Polaroid (remember those) print. It was the car's maiden 200 mi trip and still had primer (oh, pardon me ... matte-grey paint!) and steel wheels (mags and tires had not arrived yet). It was fiberglass on a shortened VW bug platform (the car we all had so much fun making into something else). I had the molds which were a '60s Lotus Europa knockoff. I'd added the front splitter. Car weighed under 1,500 lb with a near-full tank and me in it. Fun project:

Yes, those are bell-bottom jeans. Yes, I had long hair. Yes, it was the mid '70s. No, I really wouldn't want to be that young again, in today's world.
