As well as lack of heavy structural components to meet road crash safety standards and no unnecessary electronics and sensors for the safety systems present in the road car, completely gutted interior and sound insulation The transmission is also completely different. It's a sequential 6 speed race transmission, which is lighter than the more complicated dual clutch that has 7 gears and needs to be drivable on the road. Different engine, too, but I don't have the weight figures of the 6.3 vs the 4.0 handy. The turbos and all the additional plumbing isn't weightless in the 4.0.

Hi,

The GT is really well built. But for the road (laws/regulations) and for people who want luxury from a car.
They spend a lot of money and have expectations and desires.

The GT3/4 is uncompromisingly built for racing and for racing drivers. These are not human, more like machines. :-) :-)
And they get money for driving. It's a hard job.

GT 3/4 Only what is absolutely necessary is installed and is as light as possible. Costs are secondary. And “racing carbon” is really light.

“Road carbon” is mainly about looks. Sometimes it is even appropriate. Cardan, roof skin, hood, tailgate are exceptions here. Save a few lbs on the GT.

The largest single contribution to the weight savings will probably be the completely changed “interior”. Minimalist and ultralight.

If you strip a GTR/BS down to the bare minimum, you'll definitely lose a lot of pounds.
For example, the electrical system, insulation, damping, cladding and all the luxury accessories have a lot of potential.
Think 300+ lbs less is definitely possible.

Best regards

Stenzel

Yeah, I think a lot of people underestimate the weight of all the wiring and electronics in modern cars. It's miles of wires in a car for all these creature comfort and assistance systems. That's not negligible. We take wiring for granted and never really think about the weight it adds. It's increasingly becoming an issue in EVs. Besides the weight of the battery, all the power electronics and fat copper wiring needed to transport all that current isn't light. This is why 800V technology exists to some extent. Double the power w/o needing to make the wiring even thicker and heavier.

Hi,

Powered Seats, complete with consoles, weigh around 60 lbs each. (it's not that heavy for all the technology)

Recaro bucket seats in Fiber with consoles around 27 lbs each. (stock on EU GTR with 2-3 lbs more weigth due the AMG leather cover)

Recaro bucket seats in carbon with consoles around 22 lbs each. (stock on EU GTR Pro / BS with 2-3 lbs more weigth due to the AMG leather cover)

Kind regards

Stenzel

Don't forget it also has an M159 engine which is at least 200lb savings off the nose if you put into consideration all the cooling system needs for the M178. Remove 3 radiators, turbos, intercoolers, etc. Gas tank is also about 40lb.
