Why is the tread wear 240 rather than 180?
Why did you upsize the rear tires to 345/30?

Good questions,
I chose the CUP2 TW240 because I got tired of replacing the CUP2 TW180 after just a few track days. After switching to the newer CUP2 TW240, I’ve been able to almost double the number of track days without any drop in lap time performance.
I also found the TW240 to deliver more consistent results. With the TW180, I’d get 1-2 peak laps before the tire's performance drop. In contrast, the TW240 provides 3-4 peak laps before showing any signs of heat-related degradation (under similar track conditions and ambient temperatures).
Additionally, I prefer the stiffer sidewall of the TW240 and with the additional width, it offers better grip and handling then the 180 during cornering (the CUP2 max width is 325 on 20" rims).
It seems that the tire compound on the 240 is newer and maybe provide better performance.

 

Thanks for the answers. Are 240 tread still available in GT R sizes? My tires are aged out so I'm looking for replacements. I thought that the 4S was going to be my preferred choice but Michelin doesn't make the rear tires 325/30×20.

 

If you prefer to stick with the 325/30-20, the CUP2 is your best option. However, there’s nothing stopping you from switching to the CUP2 (240) in either 335/30-20 or 345/30-20. Both sizes will fit and stay within the recommended 5% front-to-rear diameter ratio variation, assuming the front remains at 275/35-19.

Alternatively, if you’re looking to move away from track tires, the 4S in 345/30-20 is also a great fit. These are quieter, last longer, and perform well in wet conditions.
