Campaign 2024100016 - Engine Control Unit

Anyone had this done? I just had my 2019 GT C in to the dealer for some routine maintenance, and they performed this campaign. When I started the car, it was seriously quiet and I thought, boy am I screwed .

Normally, warm starts in my GT C gave a nice bark, even louder than a cold start. On the way home, I did some downshifts and still have the overruns in S+, so it seems to be OK right now. I need to do some more pulls and see if much else has changed.

I did notice for the engine setting there is a "D" mode and "M" mode within Individual... I don't recall this before, but it's been a few years since I played with the mode. Is that new? I shift with the paddles a lot. I think the engine control unit update may have changed this setting.

Man...not another update. I had my '19 GT R neutered due to an update but that was back in 2022. Were you able to replicate that 'bark' by pressing/holding the left paddle when you start the car? It was a 2020 feature that got passed down.

Sadly, I just tried and the emotion start is pretty much non-existent with the paddle (tried left, and also right). Warm starts were epic with my previous software, now it's way too mild.

This might make me get a tuner with swappable software. I have an old MyGenius laying around from my CLK Black Series, maybe I can find a quality GT tune that works with it and restores some more emotion. Dunno, I need to drive it more and see if it really bothers me. The pops and bangs still exist on downshifts.

As soon as I had heard about this I called my SA at Fletcher Jones and asked if I can opt out of these updates. They said no. I canceled my appointment. Service manager called me back and tried to explain their reasons and I said I was not interested in hearing why nor did I care. He asked me if he should write anything else in his report to the GM, I told him to write: "No one wants to experience a silent orgasm". We parted on a good note.

California ?

Are you in California? I think that's the only state that can force emissions bulletins on cars. Theoretically when you own the car you are legally allowed to decline optional updates which this appears to be. If it was mandatory, it would be labeled a recall as I understand the laws. The exception I believe is in California which of course can control the time number and volume of your farts.

So sorry OP, that they found a way to further rob you of one of the joys of this vehicle

MercedesBenz Ninja should be able to code that back in for you remotely.

Please let us know how it all shakes out
