What is the best way to use it...I know, "READ the instructions!" However, I know that you guys might have some tips that might make the application maybe easier and/or more effective.

Thanks ahead of time.

Don't use it on the entire car. It may look tight, but it's oil based (I think) and it'll just slide off when you wash the car again.

scratchx by all means is not any way a protectant, it is a polish and only a polish. no protectant or anything that adds to the paint to make it look better. it polishes paint to remove swirls and scratches. For Best application use a clean foam pad and apply the product onto the pad and work in a small area , about the area of about 1x1 feet. or like 2x.5. Then rub the product back and forth in a straight line motion , both front and back as well as left to right. No circular motion as that may cause swirls. If the paint is more heavily scratched then use a cotton terry cloth so that it can grab the paint more easily and fix the imperfections. Do not use it on a buffer of any kind.

Thanks...the two sections I'm working on are 1x1 (driver c pillar) and 3x3 (hood), respectively.

3x3 feet? if so, i would cut the hood size in half to make sure you do a good job and make sure to overlap where you previously worked to smoothen it out.
