Boo,
It is basically the nature of the beast. Everytime you apply the
brakes, it "uncovers" new pristine steel. Exposed steel is going to rust on the surface.
Now if you are talking about the edges if the rotors and not the face, then I have no idea on how to protect them.
Most rust preventatives have a oily type base to them, so I would
not want that getting on the braking surfaces. I guess you could
try to paint the edge (NOT THE FACE) of the rotor with caliper
paint...but that may not be what you mean by "keeping them from rusting".
To me it is futile to try and keep the rotors from rusting..It's
going to happen.
Hope this helps

boo2, u cannot stop the metal from rusting on the area where the pad contacts the disc surface, however u can sand and paint the hub of the rotor. I actually had my rotors sent to a body shop to be sprayed today! I will post pics of the car when i get it back.

After I wash my car, rust spots almost immediately start to form on the rotors.
I run the car around the block and work the brakes to get the water off. Applying the brakes will burn the rust off.
Now, the edges of the rotor - maybe paint? I would be VERY careful, though - those brakes are IMPORTANT!
