It is all explained in this thread. Anyway I usually leave it on speed 5 the whole time. Speed 6 is too fast for a newbie and it tends to vibrate out of control at that speed. Speed 5 seems to be the fastest speed without too much vibration. Good luck! post results!

No matter what pad you use, you start out at speed 2, work the product into the section. Once it starts to dry, up the speed to 4-4.5 to buff residue and bring out the gloss. Take a towel and remove any remaining residue.
I did that this weekend with my PC and marroon and yellow meguiars pads and it turned out great. All swirls are gone.
