Need advice on Color Sanding and Buffing my Paint

I am about to get a few panels painted on my black E320.
The estimator suggested that I get the entire car Color Sanded and Buffed.
He said that it will take away some of the small visible scratches and bring back the shine.
I am skeptical about sanding the car as it will basically sand some of the clear coat away. Is this safe? Will it really make that much of an improvement?

Does anyone have experience will this or know the pros and cons?

TIA

I apprenticed at a bodyshop here in Atlanta, and it is common to colorsand (wetsand) a car after it has been painted.

DO NOT DO THIS ON YOUR OWN!!!

This is only for someone who has experience doing so.

Is it safe? To a certain extent (and done by a trained professional) it is. While it will take away a small portion of your clearcoat, it will give you a more uniform look to your car, and as your technician said, will get rid of your major scratches.

However, if you do not have many "major" scratches, a properly buffed vehicle would get the job done. For this job (without painting), expect to pay around the $500+ range. It's a once in a car's lifetime event, so don't expect to do it again.

I am not crazy enough to try this on my own.
The shop that will paint my hood will do this for the discounted rate of $200.
Which seems like a good rate.
If they do make a mistake, I will just have them paint it on their dime.

That is a good deal, and should be if you are paying them to spray multiple panels. Good value here; I would take advantage of it.

If they messed it up really bad, I would tell them to respray it. They will still need to sand, but then respray color, then clear if they are going to do it right!
