OK. Expert Paint Help Needed Here...

I looked at a silver CL65 with 28K miles, as a daily driver being sold at a high end dealer. It had a series of daily driver wear from rock chips to minor scrapes on the bumpers, one on the leather, and a ding in the rear fender.

The sale is contingent on all of these areas being "cleaned up" to my satisfaction by a professional shop. The dealer claims I will never notice, and the car will be "showroom new" condition.

Short of repainting it, how are they going to do this...? He said they blend it, and he has done it before, but he is not sure how...?

Truthfully on a car of that caliber

the finish should be close to perfect. Rock chips are unavoidable on many of todays highways.

But scrapes and dings (assuming that you can catch your finger nail) on bumpers can only be removed by refinishing. They may refinish the effected areas and "blend" them with the rest of the bumper. That means that a body shop will have to get involved.

Either make a mental note about the affected areas or take a series of "before" pictures and when the car comes back, make sure that you are comfortable with the results.

You may want to consider taking the car, before purchase, to an MB dealer and paying for an inspection. Ask the dealer about the service history on the car, they should be able to obtain that information from the VIN and their computer system.

Good luck.

I like the idea of before and after pictures. You may also want to see any other vehicles on the lot that have had similar treatments. I believe with an expert you can get it near perfect but it takes time and patience. Multiple applications of paint and wet sanding are usually needed. I would also consider wiping down those areas after the paint job with a 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol and water. This will remove any glazes, waxes or sealants they put on the paint that could potentially hide or cover up the paint.
