Weird smell in the car
I just noticed the other day, that i have this weird smell coming from somewhere in my car... I don't know what it could be.. I clean the mats routinely but it's still there.... Hmmm.. i tried febreeze... but that doesn't help all that much... must be the leather.... Any suggestions?.... Oh yeah i put in a air freshener but the smell comes back as soon as i get used to the air freshener .... ugh

Does your nose hurt when you smell the sourness? It could be Body Odor..... That stuff stays in the car for a while. Do a leather cleaning/treatment. That may help. Do you smell it when your A/C is on? Maybe something crawled in there and died?

It might be your exhaust?? My last MB was a 1996 S500 that I bought brand new and when I hit 12,000 miles it started smelling like sour milk/rotten eggs. It turned out the catalytic converter was bad and the local MB dealer put me a new one. Just my .02$, Goodluck!

There are couple of things which can attribute to bad smell:
1) If it is a manny car, then your clutch plate can give a terrible smell
2) You may have mildew in your A/C vent. Try to run the car with A/C off
3) Make sure all the belts are tight enough. Slipping belt can give a smell too.
Do you get this smell even after the car is stopped say overnight? Is the intensity increaes when the car is running?
The material used in clutchplate and belts can give an unpleasant smell.

altai1083,
Open the trunk and lift up the floor thing that covers the spare tire. Take a whiff. Is that what you are/were smelling? I have a stinky spare and the smell gets sucked up into the cabin when I open a window. The heat from the exhaust seems to make it worse.
