solution to easily cleaning running boards

The running boards on the GL need some attention. The PO didn't clean them at all (hoped the carwash would) and there is a brown dirt circle around each rubber bump. Can the stainless plate be removed and reinstalled? That would make it real easy to clean without dealing with the rubber. I felt some screws at the bottom and wondered if they held on the plate.

If it can't be easily removed, what has worked well for cleaning the boards?

The boards are cleaned-- here's how I did it.

1) remove 5 screws at bottom of RB. This will separate (but cannot remove) the stainless from the board frame.
2) gently pull upward on the outside of the stainless plate and push the rubber knobs down through the stainless. The knobs are on a 3-4 pc molded 'grid' below the stainless.
3)after all the knobs are below the surface of the stainless you can easily clean and dirt away from around the knobs.
4) once cleaned, reverse the procedure.

The first pic shows 'before' with the knobs pushed below the plate surface. The second pic shows the cleaned plate and knobs pushed back up. Note the hole in second pic; that is where the replaceable knob that holds the screw.
