Need help in maintaining silver!!!

When i drive my car and then return in the afternoon i would clean it with a dry cotton cloth and will notice a good amount of dust that's sticking with the paint. My question is how do i protect this from the dust/debree? Any suggestions pls let me know.

Thanks!

The first thing you should do is stop wiping the car with a dry cloth. Use a detailing spray from a reputable company. If your wax manufacturer makes one, use that. It will lift the dirt and lubricate the surface of the paint and prevent the dreaded swirl marks or even worse scratches.

Since I use Zaino products, I use Z-6 Gloss Enhancer. Meguiar's Quick Detail is popular with many people. Maybe these links will give a little more insight.

I use Meguiars Final Inspection - same stuff as Quick Detailer except it is available in gallon containers from auto body parts houses (@$20.00/gal). NEVER dry wipe a car!!!

I'll give the Zaino Z6 a try and see what the results are.

What are your thoughts about California duster? Is it safe to use it?

Thanks,
Victor

First off I would start out by doing a full detail job on your car. A good coat of polymer sealant really helps at repelling dust. This is what I think you should do this weekend, (check out my pics for encouragement )

1. Buy Mother's clay bar and clay the whole car (per their instructions with a QD) after a wash with blue dawn soap.
2. Since your car is silver I dont think it would have many swirls so you can skip the abrasives and just wash and dry the car to get all the QD off from the clay.
3. Apply Klasse All-in-one (available at some mercedes dealers and Classic Motoring Accessories carries it) in a back and forth motion using a MicroFiber applicator. Then buff off the residue with a 100% cotton terry cloth towel or Microfiber towel (back and forth). Also when applying use very little amount of product (about a nickel sized drop per panel).
4. Then apply Klasse Sealant Glaze in the same manner and remove it in the same manner, however it mest sit on the paint for at least an hour before buffing.

After you have completed these steps your car will have protection for 6 months or more from the elements and will repel dirt and dust better. Then you can use a QD (Quick detailer) such as Meguiars #34 Final inspection, Or Souns acrylic spritz to remove dust after driving. All you do is spray on then buff off with a Microfiber towel or 100% Cotton terry cloth towel. This can only be done if it has only a slight film of dust, otherwise you will end up scratching the finish. If it is soiled or has a lot of dust, you are better off washing the car. Hope this helps! If you have any questions just post or PM me. I know you always post .

Dust

No question, AlBoston is right. A coat of wax always helps cut down on dust accumulation.

Thank you all for your help on this matter and especially to AlBoston!

Will print this out and follow the directions.

Hey Al!

I've seen the pics on your ML and goodness gracious! It's like looking at a mirror!

It is better than wiping your car with a dry cloth, but many people still think it isn't a good idea.

addendum to my instructions.

1. When applying the Klasse All in one and SG (sealant glaze) wet the applicator with some Mequiars Final inspection or other NON-CARNUBA QD. And make sure you use 2 different applicators when applying this stuff.
2. To aid in buffing off the Klasse SG I would take a Microfiber towel and run it under water, then ring out as much water as possible. Then go to your car (after the Klasse SG has sat on it for about an hour in LA weather ) and just wipe the car with it and it will be much easier to remove the white haze. Then follow up with a clean dry 100% cotton terry cloth towel or Microfiber towel and your car will shine like this.

If you have any questions please PM me or add a reply. I want that E55 perfect!

Al

Very beautiful! Almost made me cry!:p The paint is almost like a mirror! Very nice job! How long did it take for you to detail and applying the wax and coat and the other stuff?

Thanks!

lol Jame. It took about 2 and a half hours. And man I never considered how low this car was when I bought it last week. It is way harder to detail than my ML (being 6' 8"). I was surprised at the results, I didn't think I could get a good shine but I sure did. I am going to apply more coats of the klasse SG this weekend.

I'm a huge fan of the Honda spray cleaner and wax. I use it on my Hayabusa and my cars. It works GREAT and leaves a clean, polished surface behind. You can use it on a clean or dirty car. Check it out at your local motorcycle shop.
