Att: Al Boston Re: Abrasiveness of Swirl Remover #9, Scratch X and polishes
Hi Al,
Is Meguiars Swirl Remover #9 more abrasive than Sratch X? And are polishes such as Deep Crystal Polish the least abrasive of them all?
I am doing my annual Zaino overhaul and just going through the prep...just did the dawn and noticed alot of swirls. They are not so bad to warrant using a paint cleaner, so looking for the least abrasive to do the job.
Thanks!

A good place to ask questions about Meguiar's products is here:
Meguiar's Online
Mike Philips is a great guy who really knows his products.

Hey JeT,
do you have access to 3M products? I really like the way their SMR for dark cars works compared to either of the meguiars products. To answer ur question I think scratch-x is stronger than Number 9.

Why not start with the least abrasive swirl remover, such as Meguiars #9 Swirl remover or #82 Swirl Free Polish. Both are rated as 3 abrasive.
If this does not remove all the swirls, go to something stronger like #83 Dual action Cleaner Polish. #83 is rated as a 6 abrasive. This will get all but the absolute worst swirls out of the paint, and is safe to use with both rotary and dual action orbital polishers. I doubt you need anything more.
If you find you need the #83, follow up with the #9 to smooth the finish before waxing.

Thanks AL and breakstroker. That's just what I needed to know. Al, we do have 3M products in Australia but not sure whether they have that particular product here. I will have a look for it. Thanks.
