Extreme-speed bug splats
I have bug splats encrusted on the forward-facing painted surfaces of my E55 (so that's what car bras are for!).
Soap and water did absolutely nothing to them. What's the best way to remove them?
Thanks,

Try club soda. Actually any carbonated beverage should work, but you would probably prefer to drink the imported beer and soft drinks are too messy. Apply it liberally, the carbonic acid will disolve the bugs. It might take a while. Then there are commercial paint cleaners. Meguiars makes Deep Crystal Cleaner. Don't confuse it with Deep Crystal Polish. Another way is to use lots and lots of hot water with your favorite car shampoo. Use a wash mit and rinse often. You should probably try this one first.
I found lots of products by doing a search on google using "bug remover" as the search parameter.

Although this has nothing to do with removing the baked on bugs, the best defense is a good offense.
Keep the front areas where the little b**tards impale themselves well waxed. Once a day, spend 5 minutes with Meguiar's Final Inspection (Quick Detailer) or like product and a cotton terry to remove the flattened carcasses. If you let them stay on you risk paint damage and create a chore to remove them. Same goes for bird droppings.

I always try the least invasive method first. I would try soaking the area, in this case pressing a soapy sponge on the area for a few minutes. It may take several applications, but it often works.

Thanks, CLK 320 and rp430. I still haven't had the opportunity to do this, but I'll try soaking them with hot soapy water first. Then I'll wax thoroughly, and hope I don't have the same trouble again.
