Cleaning up the engine bay

I have an 85 190e and the engine bay is a little dirty, I am looking to clean it up some so I have a couple questions.

1 - Does anyone have any suggestions on any cleaners to use, or just use soap?

2 - for the header it it not black any longer from the use over the last 20 years, so I was looking at repainting it, is this a good idea? I don't want to take it off, so is it safe to paint it in the engine bay? Any special paint, maybe a high heat paint?

Thanks

Either GUNK Engine Cleaner or Simple Green Engine cleaner will work for you. Follow the instructions and avoid spraying excess water on electrical parts. Don't degrease the engine over nice clean driveway cement, remember the grease is going to end up there. Steam cleaning and pressure washing should probably be avoided with all the sensor wires and vaccum hoses in the engine bay.

As for the exhaust manifold. Griot's Garage sells a high temp manifold paint in black or silver that can be applied with a foam brush so that it can be applied with the manifold still attached in the engine bay. The only downside is that you won't be able to paint the underside, just the top side that shows.

Are you referring to the clear corners or the actual headlights?

If you do it yourself, make sure you fully cover all electrical components. Just some advice I learnt the hard way.
