Can swirl marks be removed completely out of black paint?

Hi,

I just purchased a black C300. It is 2018 CPO with only 5k miles on it. There were some swirl marks on the car. I took it to a detailer and he told me he can remove them. At the shop everything looked ok but back at home under my garage light I realized that I throw 200 dollars out of the window. His detailing was useless and on top of it he put a sealent coat on his bad job! I am super angry and want to take the car back to him. Any Ideas if these swirl marks can be removed for good and are there any recommendation for a good detailer in the LA area? thanks

These can absolutely be removed/reduced, but you have to decide the level at which you're willing to live with and balance with what you're willing to pay to achieve and maintain it. If those pictures are after the detailer's "work" I would ask for a full or partial refund.

A) Find another detailer. Call a top-level place like Detail Werks in SoCal. If they're too expensive, ask for a referral somewhere else.
B) The work you're looking for should cost more than $200. I'd be willing to bet these swirls aren't isolated to a single panel. He probably spent a good amount of time correcting a few areas, only to run out of time based off the price he gave you leaving spotty results. Am I close?
C) Be explicit in what you're expecting out of the work and specific about the areas you want addressed.

If you want to get them removed and get the car protected , get a ceramic coating. My wife has a black GLC300 which is coated with Opti Coat pro+, almost a year in and no swirls and very easy to wash. Mine is not coated and I swear this paint gets scratches if you look at it funny. Getting it coated this weekend, and along with the coating is a paint correction where they remove imperfections. Cost is about $1500 with a 7 year warranty and you don't need to wax the car again. Recommended if you plan to keep the car a while..! Also, wash the car yourself vs. taking through an automated soft cloth wash if you want to prevent scratches
