"Carbon" deposit on W203 exhaust tips

What is the best way and product to remove the "carbon" embedded on the stainless steel exhaust tips?

I tried metal polish from Meguiars' and it did not seem work very well.

Please suggest and thanks

Eagle One "Nevr-Dull" metal polish should do the trick for all types of exhaust pipes. About $4-$5 at your local Wal-mart, Target, auto parts store

is it best to use this product once the carbon deposits appear or can/should it be applied beforehand as a preemptive move?

You can apply the product at any time on your exhaust pipe, but of course it is advantageous to do it when you see carbon deposits on it.

Is this "Never Dull" abrasive? Do you use a terry cloth or shop towel to apply?

Funny, the last time I remember using Never Dull was to polish brass when I was in the Navy. As I recall, a can contained cotton which was impregnated with the stuff. You tore off a piece of cotton and used it to polish. I believe it was abrasive but I'm not sure about that. Most metal polishes are abrasive. You could see how the brass would wear down over time from repeated polishing.

So it is less abrasive than "Brasso".

Don't know. I liked Never Dull (with the impregnated cotton) because it was less messy than Brasso. It's been a long time but I seem to recall that the Never Dull was better than Brasso.

~One man’s opinion / observations~

1. I tried metal polish from Meguiars' and it did not seem work very well. Is this Megs NXT Metal Polish, it’s a newer stronger version of thier metal polish. If not try to find a fairly abrasive metal polish.

2. “Thanks. The only problem is we don't carry this in Canada. **** off”
I can understand your frustration but that’s a strange way to thank someone who’s trying to help you, how are we (US) supposed to know what’s avail in Canada?

~Hope this helps~

I am not pissing you off, I am just disappointed we don't have much choices like in the States. Thanks by the way.

I used some fine steel wool, and that got some of the deposits off, but still not all of it.
