Small paint chip repair

I know people have posted about the annoying number of small paint chips we all get on the front of our cars. However, does anyone have any advice on the best touch up method? I remember reading something in print awhile ago and it involved putting on layers of paint with a fine brush, wet sanding, and eventually polishing. The thought of wet sanding my paint makes me cringe. Anyone have any advice?

Go to the nearest mall and practice on random cars there before doing your own.

Seriously, unless you have a lot of patience and a very light touch, this best left to a professional.
