The FEEL of my paint
All,
I have a Brilliant Silver CLK430.
I actually read the manual (believe it or not)...and they mention that you should get familiar with the FEEL of the paint.
I did.
Yesterday, I noticed that eventhough my paint is clean and very shiny after a wash.....it FEELS different. If I wash my hands and run my fingers across the surface I can feel roughness....almost like I can feel tiny impurities in the finish.
Sounds like it's in need of a detail.
Clay or buffing? All of the detail shops I've seen say they would do buffing/polishing. None of them will clay by hand.
What is your view?
Am I just imagining things with my paint job? (it's a 2000 model in awesome condition)
THANKS
oh....I'm posting this here because some of guys don't read the detailing forum...and I want your opinions!

The reason they don't wanna clay it manually is because it takes longer. When you polish, you won't get it as smooth, AND you're taking a small layer of clearcoat off too. Go with the clay.

It's literally a bar of clay. You run it over your car's body and it takes off any tiny debris etc. making your car paint SMOOOOOTH.
I have clayed our ML, my C32, and even my old pickup truck, and I have to say it is AMAZING!
It will definitely solve your "rough" paint, quaz!
It is supposedly perfectly safe as long as you use enough of the lubricant. It sprays on, and is the same stuff they sell for cleaning up dirty places on your otherwise clean car.
Clean the car as best you can, dry it, clay it, polish it, wax it. The paint is literally glass smooth - you just can't help but caress it!

Is that normal?
I'm thinking I need to wait until we get atleast 65 degrees?
What's the mimimum temp you would wax and polish your car?
quaz
Temps really depend on the product. I have seen some products that claim they can be used any temp. My rule of thumb is that it has to be warm enough for me not to need a coat (a light shirt, or sweatshirt is fine). I guess I would put that around 50-60.
DAWM DOESNT SOUND TOO SAFE
I also recommend Claymagic over others. Pinnacle clay has been known to break up after a while, and claymagic does the same exact job for less money. Another benefit is that claymagic can be found at Autozone, which is convenient. I would suggest some type of protection in the form of wax or a polymer sealant after properly prepping the paint.
