ULSD: Engine life, particulate filter life and long-term fuel economy

Has anybody seen the article in this link, or anything similar? According to this guy, MY2007 diesel components and particulate filters will see shorter lives with the new ULSD regulations. And our fuel economy will gradually worsen as the filters gradually clog over time. I don't know if this guy has an axe to grind or if he's stating actual facts. Can anybody back up his assertions or state factual reasons why he's exaggerating?

I have no idea as to the veracity of this guys claims. It should be noted that he is an Amsoil dealer, which automatically produces a built in bias.

As to the Amsoil leading the way on the spec, I think it's interesting that they are not listed in MBUSA's booklet of Approved oils for use in the 2007+ CDI engines. Only a very specific type of Mobil 1 and a Shell product are listed.

Mercedes approves oils submitted by manufacturer, which pays for the testing.

There's a significant difference between 100,000 miles of endurance running and being fueled with Mercedes specifically managed diesel oil compared to filling up at Jimmy's Stop and Go and starting and stopping the car every 20 miles though suburban areas in ever-changing climate conditions.

"Hell, you ain't been hungry since you got that belt!"
