Losing Power at Speed
I just got a nice 113k mile 1981 300 SD. It sat for a bunch of years but it runs well except when I try to get on the freeway. Sometimes it goes fine, other times it will not accelerate past 50 mph. I just purchased the car from a dealer-not a MB dealer- who changed the fuel filters. I notice in the little plastic one that there is a lot of AIR instead of fuel. So ,my questions are these: Could it be that he did not bleed the fuel filters properly and that would cause this? or is this a classic sign of a bad fuel pump-like it would be in a gasoline engined car. OR, is it something else entirely.
All suggestions welcome.

A single air bubble in the small filter is fine as long as its not a stream of bubbles.
Take care of the basic maintenance. Valve adjustment, accelerator linkage adjustment, clean air filter, make sure the primer pump does not leak when pumped, and check for dragging brakes.
