I m really intersted in buying one of these cars. I have heard so many incredible stories so far on how damn reliable they are. I cant wait to get my claws on one. Ive got money burning a hole in my pocket for the cleanest one.

Make sure it doesn't sit for a long time and if you see moisture around the injectors or smell diesel get it checked asap.
I'm going to get one to mod myself, I've "read" they can do 400 hp 700tq with a lot of cash and patience.
A measly 250hp to the wheels would make me happy

I love mine. It has its electrical gremlins like most W210 models. But, the motor is strong, and everything feels tight at 137K. I get about 28mpg on average. The only "performance" mods I have done was alter the exhaust. I hollowed out my trap oxidizer, and also added a Brabus muffler.

Specifically this pre-facelift W210 had rust problems with its doors and front suspension but a car from Southern California could be fine, if not as good as from AZ. The engine may not be as efficient as the CDIs but likely very solid, have not had one though.

I just got a 99' and love it to death. I got a straight 33mpg on a trip up to boston from long island and i've been bragging about my car more than usual 
Plus with less than a quarter tank of gas, no spare tire or jack and the car rockets for a heavy diesel. (Just forget about those good gas mileage stats though!)
BTW: I've been admiring your sl. I know itll be quite a few years before I could afford one but I get antsy just thinking about it

I got one about 7 weeks ago, '98 with 152K. Love it, everything works until about a week ago, since then have been chasing air leaks in the notoriously leaky clear plastic fuel lines. Only other common problems I have heard about other than those already mentioned are a propensity for the glow plugs to stick in the head and break when removed causing an expensive repair.
I also have an 87 124 which I thought was pretty fast for a diesel but this 210 will leave it in the dust.
