OM 60X and 61X drivers-good news
There is a little bit of good news for us. My indy mechanic suggested I get some new (reman) injectors for my 300. (230K mi and they tested out of range.)
I OK'ed it and they were supposed to be OEM. I did see the boxes they came in, with the MB logo and hologram sticker.
About 8,000 miles later...no more smooth sailing, smoke, nailing and loss of mileage, right back where I started.
LONG story short- they were made in India... not German??? I learned Bosch does not make them in Europe anymore - at least the old prechamber type anymore.
I hear from another diesel head (lots of us in VA) about a company, in Germany still making them, called Monarch (or Monark-not sure). LOTS of web searches later, I get them from a guy in NC on another forum
(wanted to drive there but no time.) Turns out he has the impossible to find shims and other internal parts. --hhmmm.
Indy gets just the nozzles replaced (thanks Johnny) then adjusts the pressures.
One word--- WOW! I wish I had known earlier. I had the timing checked at the same time, no adjustment needed. With good injectors alone my mileage went from 29 to almost 33 (75% highway - 25% city) I'm looking forward to a cross country trip to see what happens. Now it's easy starts, good throttle response, NO smoke and a much smoother, quieter engine. After 5K miles I think these are the real deal, I still haven't found the website, though.
The best part is price. Bosch were just over $33.00, Monark were under $22.00

True!
The more I learn about this car, the more I do and the better it runs. I don't know the whole history but it has over 200,000 and two injectors were bad (about 128 bar and would not spray well even when cleaned.) Moving parts do wear out.
