As stated in the WWW above.
"Vehicles with the Mercedes Maintenance System starting with MY2005 can use 229.5 or 229.51 oils."
I have the V6 in a Sprinter based RV and the I6 in my CDI both take the same filters and it is nice to buy one brand of oil.

Rotella 5/40, Very good oil and cheep. I use in my old Landcruiser but it does not meet MB specs.
I too have a Sprinter based RV, the "View". What oil are you using? I went to three different parts stores and couldn't find the correct spec. Mobil 1 had the Euro spec label but it didn't list 229.51 or 228.51. The label said it conforms to all Turbo Diesel vehicles. I'm still looking. I guess the MB dealer would work. The Dodge dealer didn't even have it. Don't know what they are using for oil changes if one were to bring it in. I found the correct product when traveling and stopped in on a Freightliner dealer.

Not true, MB changed that stance very quickly, the next release of the FASP (2007) revised the 2006 stance. They now specify what I said, 229.51 is only for DPF vehicles. 229.5 for everything else.

06 E320 CDI
I might be lucky enough to join the CDI club this week-end. 06 E320 CDI CPO'd with 30k. P1 package and HK Sound but not much more than that. Couldn't find one with Parktronic and Bi-Xenon's but for low miles and CPO the price is great right now.

Might even be driving through Albuquerque on the way back to LA.

Have enjoyed all of the input on these vehicles. Would like to hear any feedback to check on other then the VIN so I can see if all the recalls have been addressed for the vehicle.

cheaper than a benz...
parktronic, is just annoying, and an needless expense.
If you ever need the injectors replaced on the car keep in mind that have to be changed out by the dealer, the injectors have a serial code on them that has to be written into the cars software, for proper operation.

i have seen a few egr's go bad, but they were warranty work.

I corrected your false information since Amsoil doesn't actually make any of their oils, they buy from Mobil.

Amsoil buys their PAO base stocks from Mobil (as do many other companies)...not the same thing as buying Mobil oil and repackaging it.

Welcome to the club and congrats on the new car (CDI). At least new 4 U. I have heard that the MB transmission is way better that the Jetta, but remember to do tranny services when due. If you don't know if it was done, then do it right away with the recommended fluid. Other than that, change the oil. On a personal note I love Amsoil but the cost is almost prohibited nowadays. Mine is 8 qt at about nine buckarous each=thank you but not. It will cost me double to use Amsoil ($92) compared with regular Mobil oil. If you can afford it, I highly recommend it, though.

Yes. Amsoil buys their base oil from Mobil. Cut out the middleman and buy Mobil directly.
