E300D W210 Power steering.
Hi,
on my 96 w210 300D the steering is really hard when the car is not moving. When i rev up the engine a little it becomes easier. I have had to put it into neutral to be able to turn the wheels. I checked the fluid and its right on the min line. I will top it off, but i do not think its the fluid. Does anyone have an idea what else it could be.

How many miles on the pump? They do go bad after a while. Crap in the oil accelerates that process. Is it easier when you start it cold than when warm?
Changing the oil can help. That is the cheapest solution. (If it works).
The second solution is working out.
The third, and most expensive, is changing the pump.

Its got 214K on it. I will try to change the oil on it.
I looked up some pumps and found that they are expensive. Can get any pump for a W210 model, or do the diesels have a specific pump. My guess is that they would be the same.

Don't let the steering rack run dry. Will ruin it.
Check the EPC for your cars part vs other W210's. Prob the same unit.

Probably the same pump on other units, but the brackets and belt wheel may have a different size. No problem if you have your original to compare with.
