i have 46,000 miles and one bad glow plug. took mechanics' advice and replaced all 6 glow plugs at the same time. does this sound right?

Two schools of thought....they have been known to snap off in the head.
Some folks will only replace the bad one subscribing to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mindset, others figure that while its openned up you may as well do them all and deal with it if one snaps.

yes this 'Mercedes-only' specialty repair shop had all the diagnostic computer systems, that was not my worry. i guess newer Diesel Benz models will not have the longer mileage life of the glow plugs like say the 80-85 300Ds do.

Humm, I guess the ancient art of using a multimeter to check each glowplug's resistance is lost.
Replacing all the glowplugs isn't nearly as important as coating them with high temperature anti-seize.

At 45800 miles one of my glow plugs went bad and check engine ligth come on. Went to the MB service and they replased all 6 plugs under warranty (per MB) and they reset engine ligth, yours should be covered under warranty too.

was your CDI an '06? or does it matter with the mileage?
i have a 2006 E320 CDI with 43,738 miles and was charged total $472.50 (labor/parts/tax) to replace the 6 plugs and reset the computer by a shop that specialized only in MB's.

Mine is 06 320 CDI registered on 02/06 with remaning warranty until 02/10 (per MB 4 years/ 50.000 miles fully transferable). I bugth the car in July 09 with 43.300 miles, but the warranty is still on. Service was done at MB dealership, free of charge.
